Eating Oreos

Remember a few weeks ago when I posted a cute little saying about cleaning with kids being like brushing your teeth while eating Oreos?

Exhibit A: our living room early this morning

Exhibit B: our living room 5 minutes ago

They decided they should play ‘shopping superheroes’ and then brought loads of toys, games, books and blankets from the PLAYROOM to the living room.  Awesome.

I guess I know what I’m doing while Wes naps this afternoon.

She was born on the very last day of the year, which makes her the youngest in her class, of  all her friends, and according to her, younger than EVERYONE!  (She may be prone to hyperbole, just like her mama).

Either way, coming from the one who was born close to the first day of the year, being the youngest can’t be all bad.  But seeing as she is  STILL 5 and all of her friends are already 6, this weighs on her.

So when her tooth started to wiggle a while back, she felt like she’d gained some ground.  And then months went by and the wiggle barely changed.  ::crickets chirping::

Until  last week when we were en route to Virginia.  We’d just had a snack and I turned around and noticed that there was a space that wasn’t there a few minutes earlier.  The tooth?  Gone.  I mean really gone.

So, there you have it.  One of the big milestones and we have no memento to take with us.  Our best theory is that it was swallowed along with a bite of a ham sammy.

No matter.  The kid is proud.  She hasn’t smiled this big or this hard for a long time.  And a crisp 5 dollar bill under her pillow didn’t hurt either.

Coline - Way to go!!!

linds - 5 bucks?!?! wow! the toothfairy’s doing really well these days! I’m never having kids – it’ll be $20 by then. No tooth for you, come back one year!

10, again.

I’m not one to shy away from an recognizing a special anniversary.  More reason to celebrate?  Sign me up.  This year mark the TENTH annual Girl’s Weekend.  And for the occasion, I couldn’t help but dig into the archives for a photo or two. (Another found here.)

Our first weekend away took us all to the Toronto area to stay with Coline.  This weekend pre-dates most of our children, some of our marriages  (in fact, Mr. Forgetful and I had just met) and also, digital cameras, hence the tiny photo.  For me, it also pre-dated any kind of sense of shoe style.  Wow.  Are those white socks?

It was the most attended weekend, and maybe the most fun one because it felt like a giant sleepover.  But every single one since then has brought different faces, different places and much needed time to unwind get reacquainted and to catch up on all the haps.

I’m in countdown mode.  Is it Friday yet?

Carole - Fortunately, I’ve only missed two ‘girls weekends’ in the past 10 years. Can’t wait for tomorrow!

P.S. I looked at your post from 2006 and read the comments…did I really threaten to sleep beside you without bottoms on?! LOL! Glad to see I haven’t grown up too much. 😛
