Beyond blessed.

I remember my grandparents.  Some, like my nanny, my mom’s mom, I remember quite well.  She lived across the street from my school and I would go there everyday for lunch – a bologna sandwich.

My dad’s parents lived in the same city as we did until we moved when I was 7 or 8, but I still remember the trek down to their house, in the heart of downtown Montreal, on a regular basis.  My aunts still live in that house now.

My great grandparents, on the other hand, I have almost no memory.  And what I do remember, is likely from the stories my mom would tell of her life and close relationship with her own grandmother.

My kids have AMAZING grandparents who are all still well and healthy, but, who live much too far away, and our visits are limited to a few times a year.  Or less.  It makes me sad that our time together is so short, but we do our best to make it full and meaningful.  And it is.  I feel like our kids really do know their multiple sets of grandparents and look forward to time spent with all of them.

They are beyond lucky, though, because  both my kids have had the chance to meet, be rocked by as babies, spend time with and be loved on by this beautiful lady:

This is Great Grandma Sweet.  And she lives up to the name.  I adore her.  She is thoughtful and lovely and wickedly funny.  She is Dan’s maternal grandmother but she’s never, not once, treated me as anything but one of her own grand kids.

Thank you, Grandma.  For everything.  We are all so lucky to have you.

Melissa - Ah so cute! We just spent some time with Grandpa Susie in her new digs in Saskatoon. She is loving life and looks like a million bucks!

Superheroes!

Wes, like most little boys his age, is big into superheroes.  He favourite flip flops between Spiderman and Superman, depeding on the day.  My favourite, though, is Super Wes, who is always out to save the world.

His new sidekick, Super Dahlia, is equally cute and equally brave.  They can save me any day.

Island Heather - Um, so sweet. SUPER sweet. I love kids.

That’s my girl.

The change in Jaia’s skill in the last year floors me  each time I see her take to the field (or gym).  She has changed from a shy, almost frightened little gal to a fast, confident and determined player before my very eyes.  I am so proud of her and what she has accomplished.

I’m not sure if she’ll always choose to play soccer, but if she does, you will always find me on the sidelines, her biggest cheerleader.  And maybe the loudest, too.

Disappearing warmth

As the Prairies continue to dig themselves out of a giant snowfall, we are still enjoying dry roads and green grass in our part of the country.  In fact, yesterday was 13 degrees and the sun was shinning.  It felt more like a spring day and since that may have been one of the very last warm Sundays until the real spring rolls around, we made the most of it with a walk in the woods.

Oh yeah, and we fed birds from our hands.  You know, no big deal.  😉

Girl’s Weekend 2012

What to say?  This, our 10th annual edition, was just as fun, silly and wine fuelled as the previous nine.  We laughed (hard), we ate (too much), we drank (just enough).  The only dancing this year though, was on the tv – Michel Magique (which brings us back to the laughter).

Until next year, Besties…
