A chill in the air

At the first signs of fall I have no problem  throwing on the comfy jeans and warm sweaters.  I get tired of sumer by the end of it, especially after an exceptionally hot one.  This year is a little different.  We’ve barely had a summer.  And when we were experiencing summer, it was the rainy version.

So here we are in September, when I would normally be craving the cooler weather, and I’m sitting here in a tank top and a skirt, enjoying the sunshine.

But it’s coming.  Fall.  The mornings and evenings are quite chilly already.  The afternoons will be soon to catch up.  And with chilly weather come the hats!

Yup.  It’s hat season and if you want one for your little one, your significant other or yourself, put your order in soon.

Visit the newly updated hatheads site and while you are there check out the current styles and those already made and ready to wear.

In the meantime, here are some of my favourite cuties in their very own hatheads…

Apple Picking 2009

Halfway into our apple picking session, Dan mentions that he thinks that we may have had a good season this year.  The trees were chock full of the most delicious, giant and juicy apples.  I agreed at first, but then I realized, in all the years we’ve gone picking together, we’ve never made it there on the first weekend.  We usually remember a few weeks in, when they have to truck you to the far corners of the orchard because all the other apples had already been picked.  So, we realized, it wasn’t a good season – we just finally remembered to go on time.

And it was very worth it.  And not to mention, this year was the first year that weren’t bundled up  or stepping over mud puddles.  The weather was perfect today.  The sun  was brilliant and there was a slight breeze in the air – just enough to kep you cool.

And just like the weather, Jaia was completely different than she has been in years past as well.  Obviously.  This year she wanted to pick her own apples and carry her own bag (with frequent pit-stops to empty her apples into Dan’s bag).  And she didn’t want to stop.  We ended up picking far more apples than we’ll actually eat – but it made her beam.

But more than that, it made me beam.  With how busy we’ve all been this summer, Dan, Jaia and I have had fairly little time to just hang out together.  And so, after we thought we were done picking apples, we all just sat there on a hill for a few minutes, breathing in the last of summer.  It was one of those perfect moments.

And then she was off again.  More apples picked means more apples to snack on.

Dan - You didn’t mention her apple dress! Great day 😀

Auntie Lizzie - Great pictures! I love Jaia’s apple dress.

P.S. the apples were good too…just a little tart!!! 🙂

Conversations with Jaia

DSC_9528smI can’t believe how quickly I forget some of the insanely funny things Jaia says every day.  I always think to myself as I’m laughing hysterically that I’ll never forget that one, it’s way too cute.  And then an hour later I’m scratching my head trying to remember the words she used or what it was she said.  I’m forgetful, after all.

So, since this my blog, I’m going to start recording more of her cuteness so I will have a way to look back on it when she’s a teenager and not speaking to me.

This morning Jaia felt her tummy rumbling.  She looked at me and says, “Mama, my tummy is grumbly.  It’s saying ‘Jaia!  Feed me!'”

I got the not-so-subtle hint and got her breakfast going.  And soon enough, the grumbles were gone and she was a happy camper again…

Heather - That is pretty cute…my tummy says that to me on a daily basis…about 4 times a day.

My friend Allison posts things her 3 year old says in her blog, and it is just so cute, so I\’m looking forward to more of Jaia\’s wisdom 🙂

Dan - Subtlety is not her strong suit.

Last night at dinner, as a new group of people sat at the table beside us: “I don’t like that man”, pointing at a non-descript guy with long hair.

My brother is married.

It was a whirlwind.   And it was a amazing.  And like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

My brother, the groom, looked so handsome.  The flower girl, as cute as can be.

And words could not describe how beautiful his bride was.

They were beaming.  Everyone was beaming.  I may not have ever been at a wedding before where everyone there was as sure as the bride and groom that this union was meant to be.

I have to admit though, that I was a little sad.  A Sikh wedding is a photographer’s dream and I was without my camera for most of the day and night.  The colours, everywhere you looked, were amazing.  Oh the pictures I could have taken!  But it was Dan on duty this time around.  And thankfully he kept the point and shoot ready and aimed because he caught some amazing moments from an unforgettable day.

Congrats to Sean and Vinnie.  Enjoy the honeymoon!

Shannen - Jaia just looked at the top picture and she said, “Jaia looks pretty in her dress and Uncle Sean looks pretty in his dress.”

The Bloggers Three et al

We are in Victoria, BC.  It’s my first time here and certainly as far West as I’ve ever been.  I had a few missions while here and all have been accomplished.  I even did some things that I had not intended on doing but was forced into- by my own clutzyness.

First of all, I wanted to see the ocean.  We visited in Vancouver briefly while we ate fudge and watched Jaia run in circles as her chocolate high kicked in.  Those pictures deserve their own post and I plan to get on that when I have more time.

But back to the ocean visit in Victoria.  I get so easily distracted.

This morning Kris and Kurt picked us up and took us to the Victoria breakwater.  It was beautiful but FREEZING.  Not just the water, but the air.  It felt like November.  We were not bundled near enough and dipping my toe in the water was out. of. the. question.  So though my skin did not touch the water, I still feel like the mission was accomplished.

In fact, very unexpectedly, I ended up closer to the water than I planned.  As I ran towards Dan and Jaia to take advantage of a super photo op, my cellphone fell out of my pocket, which I then proceeded to kick off the edge of the breakwater.  Thankfully there was another ledge below and that it didn’t go flying straight into the Pacific, as I thought it might.  I climbed down to get it and after a quick replace of the back cover, it was good as…well, good as a phone that had been kicked off a breakwater.  It now has a few boo boos, but they make it unique looking and now make for a good story.

The other thing I really wanted to do while here, other than catch up Kris, was to finally meet Heather face to face.  Another mission accomplished.  Yesterday, Heather, Kris and I met up for coffee before our dinner for 12 people so we could really get a chance to chat.  It was awesome.  We’ve been ‘friends’ for a couple of years, but had never spoken or seen each other in real life.  Turns out, I really like her.  Kris has wonderful taste in friends…obviously.  😉

Heather - Awesome. It was SO lovely to meet you and your gorgeous family! I only wish I didn’t have this nasty deadline and could have played a bit more (and that I could have conjured up the sunshine too).
Hope you come back to visit us soon!!

Auntie Lizzie - I had a feeling when I saw that photo on facebook of you with your phone that there had been a “nearly lost” incident.
