Kitchen Reno #2 – Helpers

Can’t talk long, sick.   New sub-floor not possible.  Must source goo to smooth out existing sub-floor.  Home Depot Man will know the answer.  Tomorrow.

So tired.  So much chiseling.  Sleep.  Sleep.  Sleeeeeeeeep.

Auntie Jenny - Wow. Take care of yourself Dan! Hope you feel better.

Kitchen Reno #1

Once you break that first tile, you can’t go back!

We have a long list of changes we’d like to make to our house, and have decided the kitchen is at the top of the list, over bathrooms or backyard.  We were deciding between refinishing existing cabinets or buying new, and decided that changing the layout of the kitchen was key.  So new cabinets and new countertop are on their way!

Because we’re changing layout, we need to pull up the cream colored ceramic tiles in the kitchen.  The same tiles in the main floor bath.  And while we’re doing tiles, we might as well do the entryway!  Yes, things are spinning out of control …

Here are some before shots of the kitchen, and progress as of 10pm Thursday night.

I learned that gloves are important safety equipment.

Demolition continues tonight, then hopefully new sub-floor tomorrow and the start of some tiling!  Though nothing ever goes quite according to plan.

Spooktacular

This was Jaia’s third Halloween, but the first that she *really* got it it.  Her costume this time around?  A giraffe.  Warm, fuzzy and with a huge, hilarious, padded bum.  Perfect for doing the Wiggle Bum dance with.

Before we headed out trick or treating, we went to our friend Sarah and Barry’s house so Jaia could hang with Kayla, her little buddy and her brother Hayden.  We ventured to the park next door and took advantage of the pretty, low light and mounds of leaves and took pictures of our little jungle animals.

As soon as they got there, the girls ran wild.  I could barely get a photo at first because they were all streaks of giraffe fur and elephant skin as the girls whipped by me and around the field.  They had an absolute blast.  By the end they were just laying in the wet leaves laughing at each other.  Now that’s time well spent.

As the sun went down, we started our house to house visits (conveniently on Uncle Sean’s street) and Jaia raked in a bag full of loot! Did you know the days of those nasty orange and black wrapped brown, sticky candies are gone only to be replaced, almost exclusively, by mini chocolate bars and single-serving chips?  Lucky me…er…Jaia.

We finished off the night at Sean and Vinnie’s Halloween party.  dan was dressed as a game show host but by request from his daughter, also wore pig ears.  I was a (hot) Pink Lady.  My brother grossed us all out and scared little kids with his gooey looking eye wound and Vinnie was Charlie Chaplin.   Auntie Lizze and Unlce Mark showed up and were dressed as Richie and Margot Tenenbaum.  Other costumes at the party worth mentioning were Shannon as the genie, Craig as Wolverine and my personal favourite, the girl dressed as Freddie Kruger.

Overall – and including the playtime in the park, the trick or treating, the costume party, the snacks – the best part of Halloween 2009 for Jaia was answering the door with Auntie Vinnie to give candy to the trick or treaters.  Every time the doorbell rang she was off like a shot.  I may be way off base here, but I think that was Auntie Vinnie’s favourite part of the night too.

And now, some of the pics.

Shirley Jones - Glad to see Jaia all dressed up.
Jaia will soon figure out that Christmas
is way better than Halloween! She is
at a fun age! Take care.

Vinnie - you’re right, it was my favorite part of the night…”Time to wait for more customers” hahahaha it’s been almost a week & I’m still laughing about that

More conversations with Jaia…

I make note of these hilarious interactions with Jaia – a little for you, so although most of you are too far away to enjoy her everyday you can get a small glimpse of her hilariousness.  But to be honest, I post these mostly for myself.  I want to try to remember her exactly the way she is today…and tomorrow…and every day.  She’s growing so fast and I feel like I can barely keep up.

Enjoy.

(After about the 7th time she called Dan and I in for drinks of water and potty visits after being put to bed) “MAMA!!”  “Yes, Jaia.  What’s wrong?”  “The thing that is wrong is that my plant is dying and needs water.”

“Daddy, we have a mystery.  I can’t find my baby’s bottle.”

“Mama, I brought my lipstick to the picnic, just in case”.

Heather - I love the lipstick one…tooo funny.

Fall Fun

Mamma was away on a girls weekend, so Daddy and Jaia got some work done around the yard.  We may or may not have had A & W for lunch too.  And yes, Daddy did her hair.

Auntie Jenny - She will never forgive you for that hairdo.

Its bizarre for me to see the green grass in front of your house! When I visit there is always huge piles of snow.

Kris - That is quite the hairdo.

I love JaiaTV!!
