Spooktacular

This was Jaia’s third Halloween, but the first that she *really* got it it.  Her costume this time around?  A giraffe.  Warm, fuzzy and with a huge, hilarious, padded bum.  Perfect for doing the Wiggle Bum dance with.

Before we headed out trick or treating, we went to our friend Sarah and Barry’s house so Jaia could hang with Kayla, her little buddy and her brother Hayden.  We ventured to the park next door and took advantage of the pretty, low light and mounds of leaves and took pictures of our little jungle animals.

As soon as they got there, the girls ran wild.  I could barely get a photo at first because they were all streaks of giraffe fur and elephant skin as the girls whipped by me and around the field.  They had an absolute blast.  By the end they were just laying in the wet leaves laughing at each other.  Now that’s time well spent.

As the sun went down, we started our house to house visits (conveniently on Uncle Sean’s street) and Jaia raked in a bag full of loot! Did you know the days of those nasty orange and black wrapped brown, sticky candies are gone only to be replaced, almost exclusively, by mini chocolate bars and single-serving chips?  Lucky me…er…Jaia.

We finished off the night at Sean and Vinnie’s Halloween party.  dan was dressed as a game show host but by request from his daughter, also wore pig ears.  I was a (hot) Pink Lady.  My brother grossed us all out and scared little kids with his gooey looking eye wound and Vinnie was Charlie Chaplin.   Auntie Lizze and Unlce Mark showed up and were dressed as Richie and Margot Tenenbaum.  Other costumes at the party worth mentioning were Shannon as the genie, Craig as Wolverine and my personal favourite, the girl dressed as Freddie Kruger.

Overall – and including the playtime in the park, the trick or treating, the costume party, the snacks – the best part of Halloween 2009 for Jaia was answering the door with Auntie Vinnie to give candy to the trick or treaters.  Every time the doorbell rang she was off like a shot.  I may be way off base here, but I think that was Auntie Vinnie’s favourite part of the night too.

And now, some of the pics.
