Countertops Thursday!

We got the call yesterday – countertop dudes are coming Thursday!

So excited. Once countertops are in, it’s full speed ahead on backsplash, lighting, etc.

The kitchen renos went on pause as we waited for countertops to be fabricated, but also while we hosted our welcome guests over the holidays. I apologize for not sharing more “in progress” photos … here is one taken on the weekend:

Kitchen January 2010

More photos to come.

Da(d)ve - I thought you were getting granite, not concrete!

Dominik - looks good, I like it! Especially the kitchen table on the right …

The birthday.

Jaia turned three in December.  The Fullerton tradition continued and we woke the bean up with a treat rather than making her wait until after dinner.  I have to admit, having been woken up with my very own cupcake this morning for my birthday, that it is an awesome tradition.  You should adopt it at your house.  Or be at my house in the morning of any of our birthdays.  It’s sweet.

…and then the sugar kicked in.

And in case you wanted a look at the cutest shirt ever…

Aunt Ellen - Jaia/Shannen-I placed something in the mail for you yesterday, to enjoy with your new kitchen. I love all your pictures!

Resolutions

2010 is likely to be a busy one for us.  At least the second half of it, anyway.  But I still wanted to make some resolutions – ones I hope will stick.

1.  Clean up the mess in our house.  For the most part, things are back to normal – but when you displace your entire kitchen into other parts of the house, chaos is bound to ensue.  And things never really seem to fit the way they did before you took them out, do they?  And on top of this is to try to find new homes for all the Christmas and birthday gifts we’ve received over the past few weeks.

2.  Take more pictures.  And organize them better.  And post more of them.  I’ve really been slacking off.  I took a phenomenal photography class in the fall and while learning some new skills, I suddenly (and hopefully temporarily) lost my inspiration to pick up the camera.  I think a lot of it had to do with how busy I was and all the other things going on including the kitchen reno (See #1).  But the new year may have brought it back.  I hope.  The awesome new lighting equipment that my husband spoiled me with today might have something to do with it.

3.  Get fit (surprise, surprise).

And the simple things:

  • Keep the car clean
  • Purge the junk from the garage so we can actually park in there
  • Spend less time in front of the computer and more time outside
  • Reconnect with friends I don’t see often enough – no matter how close or far a way they live
  • Plan a vacation and go!

All are easy to accomplish and hopefully when I revisit this list over the next few months I can start scratching them off one by one!

What are your resolutions?

Dominik - run to work every day – works good so far …

The worst part…

Our family does a three year rotation for the holidays.  This year was our year to stay put.  No planes, trains, or automobiles – for us, anyway.  But as much as I love staying in Ottawa and celebrating in our own home, cuddling by our own fireplace, and enjoying our own tree, we miss those we don’t see when we stay here.  Phone calls just aren’t enough.

Thankfully, this year we got to see a big chunk of our family, some from out of town.  Our house was chock full as the guests overlapped for a few days, but we couldn’t have been happier.  Having so much of our family living far away makes us appreciate it when they come to stay.

But all good things come to an end.  And as we dropped the last of our guests off at the airport on Monday night, I felt blue.  Blue because I know that it will be months until we see each other again and though we have email and phone calls, it just isn’t the same.

I already miss all of you.
