The worst part…

Our family does a three year rotation for the holidays.  This year was our year to stay put.  No planes, trains, or automobiles – for us, anyway.  But as much as I love staying in Ottawa and celebrating in our own home, cuddling by our own fireplace, and enjoying our own tree, we miss those we don’t see when we stay here.  Phone calls just aren’t enough.

Thankfully, this year we got to see a big chunk of our family, some from out of town.  Our house was chock full as the guests overlapped for a few days, but we couldn’t have been happier.  Having so much of our family living far away makes us appreciate it when they come to stay.

But all good things come to an end.  And as we dropped the last of our guests off at the airport on Monday night, I felt blue.  Blue because I know that it will be months until we see each other again and though we have email and phone calls, it just isn’t the same.

I already miss all of you.
