I never liked people knocking at my door trying to sell me stuff, but the dislike has become more acute now that a knock at the door = barking dog, and always seems to line up with Jaia’s nap time. I can’t foresee *anything* that I would be interested in that comes to my door uninvited. That leaves junk mail and telemarketers as the last uninvited intrusions into our peaceful lives and we’ve made ourselves very hard to find by telephone (Primus VOIP, still ~$26 a month including tax, check it out!). Imagine my delight then when I came across this article (source: Globe and Mail) that pointed me to reddotcampaign.ca. Turns out Canada Post respects requests to not deliver junk mail to your mailbox! No more preferred client updates or pre-approved gold cards! I’m also eco-conscious when it’s easy, so what better way to cut down on the amount of paper you put out to the curb for recycling? If you carry through with this because I tipped you off, post a comment. Let’s see how much of an impact we have.

This is amazing.. I must admit I click to you from Heather’s blog and secretly look at your baby pics. I can’t keep quiet anymore, thank you for this! Junk mail haters unite.

I am doing this right now. I’m tired of all the waste mail I get and the calls I receive and the people visiting. I also signed up for the the Do Not Call list on the CMA website that the Red Dot site links to.

THANK YOU. I just signed up. This is awesome. Or it will be when I stop getting so much juink mail.

“I’m also eco-conscious when it’s easy” heh. I kind of like getting junk mail, especially credit card applications with pre-paid envelopes included. I like filling up the envelopes with the rest of our junk mail, sealing it up, and walking it down to the mailbox. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So, you may noticed that pictures of Jaia have been markedly absent for the past few weeks. After a year of posting a photo everyday (no, I didn’t come close, but I tried) I took the eqivalent of vacation from it. By no means does this mean that I stopped taking them. In fact, I think I’ve taken more pictures in the last few weeks than I did during all of November and December. January has been amazing, Jaia-wise. It’s like she’s become a totally different kid. Though she took her first steps at 11-months old, she used them very sparingly throughout the month of December. We could sometimes coax her to take a few steps on command (usually with promises of food), but for the most part, she was happy to crawl to where she needed to go. It was much more efficient, and brought fewer opportunities to fall. And then when she turned 1, like a switch flipped, she started using the newly acquired skill, and not just in front of Dan and I (my sister started thinking that Jaia walking was a lot like the Polkaroo…). She started being brave and would walk for a few more seconds each time, fall forward and rather than revert back to crawling, would stand herself back up and begin again. It was pretty amazing to watch. With each step her muscles seemed to strengthen and her walking would be a little less…wobbly. And then, within a week or two she was fully walking. And she continues to shock me. We went to the mall yesterday to meet a friend and I shouldn’t have bothered bringing her stroller. She just wanted to walk the entire time and by the end of the visit she was practically running – which meant I was too. No more relaxing coffee dates for this gal. She has also turned into a non-stop chatterbox. She says quite a few words: mama, dada, cat, banana, bath, etc. We can easily distinguish them, though I’m pretty sure very few others would be able to, which makes me laugh. As my younger cousins or kids of friends were learning to talk, I would always look desperately at the parents to translate because I had NO IDEA what the hell the kids were trying to say to me and yet the parents seemed to understand every word. I finally get it. My baby-turned-toddler is surprising us at every turn. My friends kept telling me not to wish away any of the early stages because they were all so short and I’d miss them when they were gone, and they were so right. But I’m enjoying this kid so much at this stage that it feels like a reward for patiently powering through some of the tougher ones. Now I’ll just have to do a re-read of this post when she’s 12 and talking back.

You mean when she’s 3 and she’s talking back.

The leopard print sleeveless hoodie is both Jaia’s and my favourite! Every night after bathtime she points to her closet, wanting to pick out something to wear over her sleeper for her remaining time spent vertical. Over half the time it’s the animal print. Awesome 🙂 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My sister-in law Jen bought me a wallet for Christmas. And not just any wallet, but a beautiful, very functional yet very stylish wallet. It is quite possibly the nicest wallet I’ve ever seen and though I fell in love with it immediately, it sat untouched on my shelf until this morning. After the ‘lost wallet’ fiasco of a few months ago, I was in need of a new one (especially since my old one was found but looked as though it was driven over with a Hummer, twice), and Jen stepped up to the plate. And that is just so Jen. Every year, for every holiday, she comes up with the best gifts. They are always unique and perhaps not something you knew you needed but something you find you can’t live without once you have it. And though she hinted that one was coming, I’m always surprised when someone else knows me well enough to pick something out that is much more ‘me’ than I could have possibly picked out myself. So there the perfect wallet sat…for over a month. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it or was too lazy to do the switch, it’s that I was afraid. At least if it remained empty on my shelf, there was no way I could lose it. It was safe there. And my old, squashed, green wallet was the one being compromised in the cruel outdoors. But the love I had for the green wallet had lost it’s lustre. It was old. And used. And sad. So today, I mustered up all the courage I had and I finally made the switch. And everything fit and has a place, which is a bonus with the new wallet. Space. It’s bigger and definitely more grown up than wallets I’ve used in the past. And more space means that I can actually put a picture of Jaia in it. I haven’t up until now because it would have quickly tattered from being jammed into one of the slots. And I felt so bad about not having a picture that I could whip out like the rest of my friends who were ready and able to show off their little ones with the flick of the wrist at the last reunion-type event that we all attended. Bad mama. So now, thanks to Jen, I am a stylish mama, with a stylish wallet that holds a delightful little picture of Jaia in the little window slot and has room for all the other cards and necessities. I’m all set…that is, as long as I don’t lose it.

I’m glad you like it!

Ah…the old wallet switcheroo. Only slightly more fun than the purse switcheroo…but even more important to make sure you’ve emptied all the pockets! I’m curious…which Jaia photo made the cut?? You had one or two to choose from. 😉 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Dan - That last photo needs a word bubble saying “I miss Daddy.”
