Baby Steps.

Being born in the middle of winter, in Canada, has its challenges. One of them involves turning one, learning to walk, and not being able to practice the new skill in the great outdoors. Luckily we went to Virginia a few weeks ago and Jaia got a wee taste of vitamin D, but it wasn’t enough and Jaia’s been itching to get outside ever since. Unfortunately for us, the snow and cold weather continued…that is, until yesterday.

Wearing her new spring coat and funky runners, Jaia, her dad, Humphrey and I took our first *real* walk together.  The cats were so jealous.

Dan - She loves walking! She even walks in the direction we want her to over half the time, which means we made it home safely 🙂

We also recorded her first fall into a puddle, bum first. Her jeans, they were muddy.

Claudia - I can’t believe she held your hand and cooperated!!! Eva just makes a run for it.

Ew.

We are watching Charlotte’s Web and it turns out that animated spiders make my skin crawl as much as real ones do.

Kris - Is it any good? I’m OK with the spiders, but Dakota Fanning makes my skin crawl a bit.

April 2, 2008 - 12:17 pm

Auntie Lizzie - Ha! That’s hysterical…Mark is also terrified of Dakota Fanning. You two should start a club.

April 2, 2008 - 2:59 pm

Kris - I liked her in I Am Sam, but it was pretty much downhill from the moment her adult teeth came in.

shannen - Thankfully there is still a Fanning sister that makes up for Dakota being creepy. Little Elle is still beyond adorable.

MarkM - Dakota Fanning and ‘Aunt Bird’ from Mr. Dress Up are way more scary than cartoon spiders!

Welcome to forgetful.ca version 3.0!

Sorry for the downtime folks.  Sure, it may not look any different than version 2.0 (except for some small glitches), but it’s now running on wordpress 2.5 (up from wordpress 2.0.11), mysql 3.4 (up from 3.1), and now broadcasts in stereo sound (up from monaural)!  Your enjoyment of forgetful.ca should improve by 13.6% on average, with a standard deviation of 4.2%.  Many, many hours of my weekend were spent backing up, exporting and importing sql databases.  Reinforcing what I learned in school: if something goes wrong, it’s likely a syntax error.  Fun!

This was all in order to host multiple websites from our one web hosting account.  hatheads.ca here we come!

Interesting side note: my “10 things to do while waiting for forgetful.ca to return” post was inexplicably eaten by the weevils.

Is it that time already?

I haven’t been known to stay in one house very long.  I think my record in the last 15 years or so has been 2 1/2 years in our last house and since we are coming up on 2 years in this house, my feet are starting to itch.

The confusing part is that actually I don’t like moving.  I certainly don’t like packing, I despise living in a messy, cluttered space for any length of time and all that lifting…oh wait, that’s all Dan.  I’m just a girl, after all.  🙂

So this time we are doing what I never thought I would…we are moving to the east end of town.  It’ll probably be Orleans, but we haven’t closed our other east-ish options just yet.  Quite frankly, it’ll depend on what we find, not necessarily the neighbourhood it happens to be in.

Orleans is where I grew up and the only part of town where we have any family.  Though Ottawa is not big, the drive from one end of town to the other seems far if you don’t do it on a regular basis.  So unfortunately, though we have family in town, we don’t see them very often, which I find sad.  If we live closer, there are no more excuses – from any of us.

The idea is pretty exciting,  and we are still flirting with the idea of a much bigger move, but this one is much more doable at the moment, though it certainly doesn’t cancel any others out…it’s just a better home base for us…for now.

I’ll miss this part of town.  We have made a home here for almost 5 years, and I’ve enjoyed it.  We also have some great friends (new and old) who live fairly closeby, but I’ve learned that distance, espcially within the same city, doesn’t stop friendships, you just make more of the time you do spend together.

We are still a couple of months away from listing our house and actually taking the plunge – but we can’t stop ourselves from checking mls.ca everyday for the new listings.  Thankfully Orleans isn’t closer or we would have already spent a few of our Sundays driving from open house to open house before we are ready to commit to anything.

Alicia - Can’t wait to say “Welcome to the exciting part of town!”

It’ll be nice to have you guys closer to us..

Kris - Oh sure, wait until we leave Orleans and THEN move with your adorable cherub and pets. What? Awesome! You know how I feel about Ottawa’s glorious east end…I highly support this idea. Even though we’re not there to enjoy your proximity. If you’re looking for a real estate agent, I’d highly recommend our property manager. I’ll send you a link to her Royal LePage profile, if you’re interested. What area?

Yay Orleans! Keep me updated! We’re only minorly insulted that this happened after we left, but are looking forward to an Orleans BBQ when we visit! Somehow, I don’t think our tenants would be into us using our deck…

Gary - orleans stinks

Yay!! I've been looking forward to this for a long time.
