This kid.

Jaia wouldn’t have known mischief if it walked up and bit her at 2 or 3.  Even now.  But Wes, well, Wes is a true kid.  Michief maker, extraordinaire.  Take last night.  I left a tub of cream unattended while I answered the door.  While having a quick chat with a friend, it got silent in the living room.  As a mom you know silence means TROUBLE.

You can’t tell from the picture, but the cream was up to his elbows.

He’s lucky he’s cute.  And that he calls me his best friend.  That helps.

I know I’m not alone.  I saw a picture someone posted of their daughter who had coloured ALL OVER her kitchen with a black Sharpie.  It happens.  Hopefully not in my kitchen, but it happens.

I came across this the other day and fell in love.  A group of photographers have started documenting their life with kids.  It pulled at the heartstrings for me when I saw the pictures because it reminded me of my own house, so full of life and noise at this very moment in time.  We sometimes wish away the mess and chaos, but one day, maybe not too far from today, I’ll look back and miss it.

And now that we are getting all mushy, if you haven’t watched this one…you have to.  If you don’t cry just a little, you are a robot.

Picture This: Joy

I did not take pictures today.  Easter Sunday.  One of the most fun mornings of the year.  When kids are hopped up on sugar and adults are secretly hopped up on sugar after pilfing their favourites from their kids’ Easter baskets (oh, is that just me?), and I did not take one picture.

The reason is simple. I’ve been in mourning for the past few weeks.  I carelessly left my camera out, on the tripod, unattended, and it was knocked over by one of the shorter members of our family.  My go-to lens, which cost me an arm and a leg a few years ago, smashed on the ground.  It is currently being repaired by the good yet far from cheap folks at Nikon and I am eagerly awaiting its return.

I have other lenses, yes, but I still feel sad about this one being gone.  And the $400 to fix it.  Barf.

So, instead of posting adorable photos from this morning as my little bunnies tiptoed around the house hunting their chocolate goodies, I am posting older, yet still adorable photos of my little bunnies laughing their heads off while we ran around the Wakefield covered bridge on a frosty Saturday afternoon.

March Break: Day Three

Another day all alone with my little lady.

Coffee date: Check.

Hers are WAY cuter.

Visit to the Spa: Check.

It was our first visit to the spa together for pedicures.  Turns out we are both equally ticklish.

Movie: Check.

I have no pictures. We went to see Rise of the Guardians (again) and loved it (again).  Well, what we saw, anyway.  One of us was sleepy and took a catnap.  Guesses?

March Break is EXHAUSTING, no?

Giant snowman sighting: Check.

And then, just as we arrived home, I stood at the window and almost wept as, once again, the snow fell from the sky.

Auntie Jenny - That snowman is unbelievable!!

Looks like you two are having fun 🙂

March Break: Day Two.

Day two saw us down to 1 kid.  Wes went off to daycare, as he always does on Tuesday, so my gal and I got to spend some quality time together.

The day started off with a call from one of Jaia’s besties, to see if we could meet up.  As luck would have it, we had no plans and  jumped at the chance.  The plan: meet at the mall, with 95, 000 of our closet friends who were also avoiding the rain.  It was crowded, involved line-ups and waiting around, but the coffee was warm and the company grand, so we stayed and played.  And had lollypops.

Unfortunately, before we made it to mall, we had a date with a needle.  Jaia had to have a blood test and the impending doom of the day was weighing on my girl for weeks.  Today was the day.  She put on her bravest face and away we went to hurry up and wait (theme of the day).

After an hour it was our turn.  And it wasn’t pretty.  No one appreciates getting needles, but least of all 6 year olds, or so it seemed today in that office.

Pretty purple band-aids help.  Sort of.

Our visit to the mall was followed up with an impromptu ‘Ladies Who Lunch’ and a little shopping for the 47 birthday parties Jaia has this weekend. Ok, it’s actually only 3, but still so many.  I don’t think I was really prepared for how many birthday parties they would be invited to every weekend once they go to school and join sports teams.  The kids, though, love every second of it.  So, this mama will happily play along and play chauffeur.  Giddy up.
