Forgotten.

The best part of smartphones (for me) is having a camera on me at all times with out having to lug the big one around.  I’m able to capture moments that would have otherwise been missed.

The bad part about having a smartphone to capture all the moments is (sometimes) taking so many pictures I forget about some of my favourites.

I recently dumped 1500 photos from my phone and found these two:

I had been eyeing up this wall for years.  On our last trip to Saskatoon, we finally made a quick stop there, and thankfully, just in time.  Turns out this landmark is closing (and may already be closed) and these awesome paintings may gone by the next time we come to town.

Dan - The establishment my lovely wife is referring to is Tramps, where I spent countless hours looking through used comics, books and music. Tramps will be missed but not forgotten (see how I tied that all together?)

#dailygram – Canada Day 2013

For over 20 years, these kids’ moms and I have celebrated most of our Canada Days together.  And now, our kids make up the best part of the celebration.

Have you ever seen a cuter bunch?

Kris - Nope, those are some adorable little Canadians!

She killed Grade 1

The school year is over.  In the blink of an eye, 10 months passed and my little lady is heading off down the path to grade 2.

Grade 1, by the numbers:

– 1 new school

– 2 new teachers

– 3 lost teeth (in 3 different places: Virginia, Ottawa and Saskatoon)

– read countless (literally) chapter books

– made tons of new friends

– played on 2 soccer teams

– 8 plane rides

– 2 AMAZING report cards

-2 very proud parents

The decision to change Jaia’s school was not an easy one.  If you know Dan and I, we are not very spontaneous people when it comes to the really big decisions.  (After actually creating a spreadsheet) we eventually decided that it was in Jaia’s best interest to start at a new school.

The first few days were challenging, but since then, there was no doubt that we made the right choice.  Everything just seemed to fit.  And Jaia, well, she was off making new friends and excelling in school with very little but encouragement from us.  School is just her thing.  She loves everything about it (at least for a few more years…)

And here we are wondering where the months went.  Without changing *that* much physically since September, Jaia is certainly a different little person.  She’s bright and charming and hilarious.  She’s quiet and confident and brave I have no doubt that she’ll approach grade 2 with the same level of excitement as she did grade 1.

Until then, SCHOOL’S OUT!  Let the fun begin!

And just for fun, here is last year’s side by side.

And here she is on her first day of JK
