Day 327 – Snack time

April 6, 2011 - 6:27 pm

Dan - It kinda looks like he’s eating Polly Pockets … one in his mouth, the remains of one with green hair on the cutting board, and another to go.

Mmmmm Polly Pockets ….

April 7, 2011 - 6:18 pm

Dominik - oh ya, looks like a little man-eater … 🙂

Day 321 – Terrified.

It’s been a virtual snot factory around here.  First the girl.  Then the wee one.  Then the daddy.   I’m next in line and with the beginnings of a tickle in my throat and the odd sneeze sneaking up on me, I’m scared.  We’ve all spent much of the winter under the weather and I was hoping we were past cold and flu season.  Apparently we’re not.

I’d write more, but I have a hot date with a glass of orange juice and a Cold FX.

And now for something completely unrelated:

April 2, 2011 - 12:05 am

Heather - Sorry to hear you’re all getting the dreaded cold. It’s a bummer. Beautiful pic of the kitty! To have those eyes!

Milestone.

Today is Dan’s birthday.  It’s a big one.  And, hopefully, a good one.

He deserves it.

A super hero who typically goes uncelebrated, he never ever complains and always goes above and beyond to make sure his family is happy and safe.  Seriously.  A super hero.

He’s my voice of reason and a sounding board like no other.  To be honest, I’m not sure what I’d do without him.  He calms my crazy and endlessly puts out the fires I leave in my wake.

He lights up at the sight and sound of his babies and ALWAYS makes time for them, no matter what else is going on.  He is the best father I have ever known.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am lucky to call him my husband.

Dan, there may be less fanfare than in other years, but the sentiments remain the same.  Today, we wish you the very happiest of birthdays.

You deserve it.

Let yourself be spoiled by all those who think you are kickass – and the list is endless.  Enjoy every second.

We love you like mad.

Failure to Launch

I stopped running.

It seems that Murphy’s Law has struck again.  I go ahead and talk about my pain-free training annnnnnnnd the pain begins.  I did an outdoor run about a month ago and I’m not sure if it was the actual pavement pounding or just poor luck in general that started it up, but it is definitely back with a vengeance.

I spent the next couple of runs biting my lip and powering through only to find that the pain was not only present while running, but all day long, and for days after.  I haven’t tried for a few weeks now and it still hurts to walk down stairs or to bend quickly at the knee, which I do once or twice every minute while chasing around my son.

I’m heartbroken.  I really thought I was going to be ok.  I thought I was past this.  I thought I had beat it.  Dumb knee.

Anyway, all is not lost.  I’m still planning on running a 10k in May.  I just don’t think I can slowly creep up to the 10k in preparation for it.  I might have to just do a blast on the day of and suffer the consequences after.  But I will continue to work on my stamina and endurance through other means (elliptical and more recently spinning – which I am loving).

Thank you to all of you for your supportive comments and emails.  It meant a lot to me to know I had such a large cheering section.  I feel quite disappointed in myself for giving up almost before I started, but such is life.   And walking trying to walk around in that much pain doesn’t make it worth it.

So there it is.  My update.  Sad, yes, but there are worse things.  And I’m choosing not to focus on any of them.

March 29, 2011 - 11:17 am

Kris - Ugh. Your story is just a little too familiar for me. Take good care of that knee…it’s not worth pushing it too much and paying later, whether that’s the day after or years down the road. 🙁

March 29, 2011 - 1:29 pm

Linda Desjardins - Shannen

Get your knee checked out by a doctor – phsyio may help you to build up some strength – maybe I’ll see you at Good Life

April 2, 2011 - 4:28 pm

Heather - Ah, running. My nemesis. As you might know, I have been doing the Couch to Five Km plan, which has been going slowly but pretty good (aside from this week – I got lazy). I have never been a long distance runner, and I firmly believe some people’s bodies are built for it. I am NOT one of those people. And the journey continues…
Hope your knee feels better soon!

Looking for inspiration…

So the bathroom is done.  The master bedroom is painted and is starting to come together.  I still have a lot to do, but it’s more about making the decisions than doing the actual renovations at this point.  And I’m terrible at making design decisions.  Or any decisions, for that matter.

Which brings me to my next project in line: the girl’s room.  It should come at no surprise but Jaia wants her room to be pink.  Right now it is a not awful shade of green, but she has convinced me that pink is the new green.  So it looks like it’s got to go.

Problem is, I’m 100% stuck on what to do.  Pink rooms are can be awful and no matter how much I’ve tried to convince her that we should paint this new room like her old room (which I still adore and am devastated that we couldn’t bring the whole thing with us to this house), she won’t buy it.  She wants something different.

I’ve scoured the internet for pictures to inspire me and I’ve come up short.  I’m at a total loss.  But I want to get started on it before the weather improves substantially and I start wanting to spend ALL my time outside.

So I’m throwing it out there and asking for ideas.  Anyone see an awesome room and want to share?  I could use the help…

Auntie Jenny - Do one wall in wallpaper! There is tons of cute wallpaper out there now. Maybe a pink plaid?
