I stopped running.
It seems that Murphy’s Law has struck again. I go ahead and talk about my pain-free training annnnnnnnd the pain begins. I did an outdoor run about a month ago and I’m not sure if it was the actual pavement pounding or just poor luck in general that started it up, but it is definitely back with a vengeance.
I spent the next couple of runs biting my lip and powering through only to find that the pain was not only present while running, but all day long, and for days after. I haven’t tried for a few weeks now and it still hurts to walk down stairs or to bend quickly at the knee, which I do once or twice every minute while chasing around my son.
I’m heartbroken. I really thought I was going to be ok. I thought I was past this. I thought I had beat it. Dumb knee.
Anyway, all is not lost. I’m still planning on running a 10k in May. I just don’t think I can slowly creep up to the 10k in preparation for it. I might have to just do a blast on the day of and suffer the consequences after. But I will continue to work on my stamina and endurance through other means (elliptical and more recently spinning – which I am loving).
Thank you to all of you for your supportive comments and emails. It meant a lot to me to know I had such a large cheering section. I feel quite disappointed in myself for giving up almost before I started, but such is life. And walking trying to walk around in that much pain doesn’t make it worth it.
So there it is. My update. Sad, yes, but there are worse things. And I’m choosing not to focus on any of them.
Dan - It kinda looks like he’s eating Polly Pockets … one in his mouth, the remains of one with green hair on the cutting board, and another to go.
Mmmmm Polly Pockets ….
Dominik - oh ya, looks like a little man-eater … 🙂
