Day 296 – THE boots

Jaia got a pair of boots from her Grandma Lois for Christmas.  We went shopping at Zara and after seeing them, she would think or let me think of nothing else.  She HAD to have them.  HAD to.  And believe me, I did all I could to sway her.  But she HAD to have them.  Who was I to say no?

So we brought THE boots home and for the next few days I would occasionally find Jaia sitting on the floor with a pile of baby wipes or paper towel beside her after having cleaned the bottom – even though she had never worn them outside.

For weeks after they were all she wanted to wear.  With jeans, with dresses, with her pyjamas.  They were the first thing she thought of and put on when she woke up and the last thing she’d peel off at the end of the day.

These boots are not old yet, but they are already very well loved.  And the bottoms?  Still immaculate.  We’ll have to see if she lets down her guard and wears them outside once the weather warms up…

First room

So the renos I mentioned I was doing were mis-labelled.  They are more like updates.  I promised Dan a full year off from having to tear anything out, replace anything or any serious manual labour, and so far  I’ve kept my word.  So the big renos will have to wait.  And until then, we can chip away at all the little things that we can tackle easily, but that still make a big impact.

My first project was our master bathroom.  Thankfully, this room had already been remodelled quite nicely before we moved in.  So all I had to do was paint.  And did I ever.  The people that lived here before us loved burgundy.  I do not love burgundy.  I don’t even like burgundy.  In fact, I don’t want any burgundy in my house at all.  Unfortunately they added it to almost every room in one way or another I have my work cut out for me.

I’m still amazed at what a coat of paint can do.

Here it is before:

And then after:

We chose a very pale aqua colour for the walls.  It brightens the room immensely.  I love it.  It feels like a spa in there.

This vanity was custom made.   Apparently.  And it’s kind of cool, but it’s also a little…country cottage.  But we won’t be replacing it anytime soon as it serves its purpose.  But I will paint it.  I was thinking of a black-brown colour with brushed nickel knobs.  But then Auntie Jenny suggested I paint it white.  It hadn’t even occured to me.  Now I’m torn and so the vanity is not yet painted.  I’m non-commital.

These mirrors were gold and brown.  And ugly.  But it was nothing a can of matte black spray paint couldn’t fix.  🙂

Auntie Kris - Wow…what a transformation! It looks lovely – great colour choice and I love how the black mirrors pop against the blue.

I vote for white as well, with the counter left as is to tie into the floors.
