On a mission to give me her freshly picked bouquet…

We are under the 30 day mark. As it sinks in, it’s freaking me out a little, but other than the enormous belly, life is as usual. Mat leave is a few weeks off, and now with the room ‘ready’, we just wait. When Jaia was on the way, we held a little contest for friends and family. And since we claim that you can’t *really* enjoy something unless you are betting on it, we decided to do it again. Only this time we are less organized, and we require less information. Asking you to guess the date would be unfair considering we likely already know the date. But the baby’s weight? Completely up in the air – though one look at me might convince you to go with my guess of 14lbs and change. After a few guesses come in, we’ll begin to chart it out – or Dan will, since that’s his thing. But until then, feel free to leave a comment with what you think Frank the Baby will weigh upon his arrival. If you are too shy to comment – and some of you are – just drop me an email with the magic number. The winner gets an actual prize this time. Happy guessing!! Oh, and in case this helps, Jaia weighed in at 7 lbs 7 ozs. And she was three weeks early. I think it’s clear that we make big babies.

WOW. I can’t believe it’s that imminent! I bet it hasn’t flown by so quickly for you, but it has for me – I thought there were a good few months left! OK, my guess is 8lbs 2 ounces. And I’m hoping it’s a safe, happy (?!), and peaceful delivery. Good luck!!

Hey Shannen, Your pictures are so beautiful! I’m going to guess that Frank will weigh 8lbs 6 oz…and that he will be gorgeous, like your daughter! Heather
April 13, 2010 - 11:01 am
My guess – 8 pounds 8 ounces 🙂
April 13, 2010 - 11:50 am
I assume we playing with Prize is Right rules? I will go with 7 lbs 9 ounces.
April 13, 2010 - 12:18 pm
8 pounds, 5 ounces. Final answer. Come on, FTB!! Auntie Kris will bring you a present in June if you’re right on the mark. And probably even if you aren’t.
April 13, 2010 - 12:21 pm
9 pounds 3 ounces
April 13, 2010 - 4:58 pm
13 pounds 11 ounces.
April 14, 2010 - 9:27 am
That’s mean Dan…
April 14, 2010 - 9:55 am
$1. C’mon showcase showdown.
April 14, 2010 - 10:17 pm
13 pounds, 11 ounces?!?! I was so pleased that all the guesses stayed in the single digits until my husband suggests this nonsense… I don’t think he’d be making the same jokes if he was the one giving birth to a 13 pounder. 😐
April 14, 2010 - 10:43 pm
7 pounds 6 ounces… Everyone seems to be taking your advice of thinking big (or at least bigger) baby but I’m going smaller than Jaia 🙂
April 15, 2010 - 8:19 am
Danielle, you are my favourite. 😉
April 15, 2010 - 9:41 am
Oh all right, I retract my 13 lbs 11 oz guess. I’m going for 8 lbs even.
April 16, 2010 - 1:43 pm
Ok, I’m going with 9 lbs 7 ounces. C’mon Frank!
April 22, 2010 - 9:23 pm
wow SHAN, less than 30 days. That’s so crazy. I would say baby frank is coming at 8lbs 4ozs! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As my girlfriends and I sat around my kitchen this evening eating a delicious dinner and doing some long overdue catching up, my attention was suddenly diverted to ‘something HUGE’ that seemed to fall into the backyard. Not wanting to interrupt the conversation, I moved into the other room to get a better look at what I assumed was a cat – a big cat – that had made it’s way onto our property. I felt like it took a few seconds for my eyes to process what I was seeing before screaming to the girls that there was a turkey in my backyard. Yes, you read that right. A turkey. Chaos ensued as we all scrambled to get our cameras and cellphones before he flew off. But to our surprise, he found himself a comfy spot on our rickety old fence and let the paparazzi get their fill before heading to the front yard and down the street. I wonder how far he made it. Hopefully all the way back home, where ever that may be.

Bizarre! I wouldn’t have believed you if you didn’t have photographic evidence. Why is the fence so bendy?
April 13, 2010 - 10:51 am
I can’t believe I missed him.
April 13, 2010 - 11:46 am
You may need to give him a name. Five big ones just like that walked across my in-laws front lawn every morning for about a week before they moved on.

If you lived in full-on farm country, I’d think OK…that’s fairly reasonable. But your neighborhood is not farm-y at all. Where did he come from? Where was he going? Questions which will remain unanswered, I assume. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Each time I start one of these posts I think I’m going to run out of things to list and each week I’m surprised at how much I have to look forward to in the coming days. This week is no exception. 1. NO PLANS – This weekend is much the opposite of the past few…we are completely sans plans. No dinners, no dates, no meet-ups, nothing to shop for, nothing to prep for. Nothing. And it feels great. Sometimes the best days/nights are the ones you didn’t see coming. 2. COUNTDOWNS – In the coming months we have a lot to look forward to: Frank the Baby will make his debut, my mom is coming to stay with us, maternity leave, Dan’s month off, trips and loads of family time. After a loooong, cold, boring winter, having so much to gladly count down to is refreshing. And exciting. 3. APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS – Enough said. 4. MOVIE NIGHT- I admit that halfway through it never feels like the week is flying by, but before I can blink it’s already Friday. And Fridays in our house bring movie nights! It’s been a long standing tradition and one we all look forward to. What’s better than jammies, a bowl of popcorn and a good flick watched all together? Jaia has already requested Cinderella. I’m hoping to watch something she hasn’t seen 6000 times already, but ultimately, she’s in charge of the selection.
April 9, 2010 - 11:07 am
If you’re looking for recommendations, I suggest “Fantastic Mr. Fox”. It’s outstanding.
April 12, 2010 - 8:47 am
I’m fairly partial to Bee Movie, myself. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After the most gorgeous early April long weekend in my memory, it’s been a bit hard to swallow that this entire week (so far) has been cloudy, rainy and grey. But you can only hide from the weather for so long… Soon after we’d located a couple of good puddles, our mission changed from splashing to ‘worm scouting and saving’. Every one we saw on the road HAD to be picked up and moved back to the grass. And since Jaia is, well….3 and lacks the coordination it takes to do the job, I was forced to gently remove the worms from danger. I did not sign up for this.
April 8, 2010 - 8:27 am
You must really love our child if you’re touching worms for her. I wonder if I should plant the seed that spiders should be saved as well?
April 8, 2010 - 10:37 am
Two things I should mention: 1) I used two sticks to pick the worms up. I’ll save them, but I refuse to touch them. Barf. 2) I’m living a double life. In front of Jaia I pretend that spiders aren’t scary and that she has nothing to be afraid of. But the truth is… I’M LYING. I’m terrified and cannot be within 10 feet of the 8-legged beasts. You’d better not make me ‘save’ even one unless saving actually means smooshing them with a shoe.
April 8, 2010 - 11:03 am
Jaia’s not still afraid of spiders, is she? I thought I convinced her of their usefulness last week.
April 8, 2010 - 11:24 am
(Second time today my anti-spam word is bunion) Contributor Mark: Valiant effort, Mark, but alas spiders still send her screaming. And I can’t take any blame for it. I’m not sure where it comes from.
April 13, 2010 - 8:13 am
I used to “save” worms…or so I thought. I would see them wriggling along the pavement and worry they would dry out…so I dropped them in the deepest puddle I could find. It wasn’t until years later that I learned they come out of their holes to avoid drowning, not to seek out puddles. Oops. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
