This one was courtesy of Dan who was outside with Jaia enjoying the afternoon sunshine.  This kid could not have been happier about dusting her car off and taking it for the first spin of the season.

Jaia’s last gymnastics class is next week.  Other than the fact that it starts at 8:15 am, I think we are all going to miss it.  For the first time, Jaia was in a classroom type setting with an instructor that she needed to pay attention to and it was really neat to see.  Ours was nicknamed ‘Kiwi’ (no explanantion given) and Jaia loved her.  Teacher’s pet, maybe?  But mostly I think their connection came from the sticker Kiwi gave out to each of them at the end of each class that really won her over.

Jaia’s best trick:  A tie between an excellent somersault (she was one of the first in the class to do one on her own) and hanging on the bar, her true specialty.

A gymnast in the making?  Only time will tell.

Speaking of necklaces…

Th other day I posted a picture of the necklace I had made at Sassy Bead Company.  I love, love, love love it.  But not just because it’s pretty, because it means so much to me.

When Jaia was little, she would throw her little arms and arms and legs out when we’d put her down on the change table, crib, whatever (it’s a newborn reflex that all babies have).  Her flared pose would always remind me of a starfish and it led me to begin calling her that, a wonderful addition to the plethora of nicknames she already had by that point.  But Starfish stuck.  It was our little thing.

And I bought myself a necklace to commemorate that time.  A little reminder for me of the tiny newborn Jaia for when she wasn’t so tiny anymore.  And then I lost it.  It somehow came undone and slipped off my neck without me even noticing.  I was devastated.  I looked around for a replacement for a long time with no luck.

And then Dan, Super Dan, bought me the starfish pendant for Christmas and now I have my necklace back, just new and improved.

But while I was looking around for an appropriately sweet starfish design to replace the lost one, I came upon so many brilliant designers.  My favourite, by far, was Lisa Leonard of Lisa Leonard Designs.  After browsing her site, it became clear to me that I’m really fond of jewelry that is more than just pretty.  Jewelry that means something and that holds such significance that whenever you see it or wear it, it brings back wonderful memories…like the starfish does for me.

My faves of Ms. Leonard’s designs are the Petite original Circle under ‘Something Simple’, the Tiny Squares under ‘Something Inspired’, and the Stackable Rings under ‘Something Extra’.  There’s just something so sweet and simple about her line.  What a perfect gift for a wife (hint, hint, Dan), a mother, a sister or a friend.

Auntie Lizzie - Wow, the jewelry on Lisa Leonard’s site really is awesome. Love it!

Snow, snow, go away.  Don’t come back.  Ever.  I’m tired of looking at you.

Call it our guest book.  A few months ago Dan and I decided to use the doorway into our dining room as a growth chart for Jaia.  She stood up against the wall and we marked her height for that month.  Our plan is to take the measurements every 6 months or so.

But then, being the goofs that we are, we measured ourselves against the wall.  I had no idea Dan was that much taller than me.  For kicks, we measured Auntie Lizzie and Uncle Mark on their next visit.  No surprise, both also towered over me.

And then, to continue our new tradition, we measured Auntie Jenny and Uncle Steve and Uncle Sean and Auntie Vinnie when they were all over for dinner on Saturday night.  Thanfully, other than Jaia, I am no longer the shortest of the group.  That prize goes to shrimpy Auntie Vinnie.  And the proof is written on the wall.

Wanna see where you measure up?
