Simple, really.

I love BIG things simply stated.  And it happens all the time.  I’ll hear some lyrics from a song, or read a quote and I feel…moved.  Not life-changingly moved, but sometimes it just makes me think.  Or make or makes me see things from a different perspective.  Or better yet, makes me feel as if I am not the only one that has ever felt a certain way.

I remember back to sometime in the 80’s when Family Ties was nearing it’s end, maybe even the last episode, when Mallory Keaton stood up behind the podium to make the valecictorian address (for Alex who was no doubt locked in a closet or some other shenanigan).  This was 20 years ago (I think) and her brief message sticks with me to this day.  “The meaning of life? That’s easy. Try to have fun, try not to hurt people, hope to fall in love.”  Brilliant.  Three short sentences that sum it all up for all of us.

In the years since, I’ve found other ways to say the same thing, this one being my new favourite:

I think I’m going to make an effort follow these BIG things simply stated more often.  I invite you to do the same.  Especially the last one.

My new necklace.

Dan bought me the beautiful pendant for Christmas.  I’d been wanting one like it for sometime and the one he chose was beyond perfect.  Today I finally got my butt to the Sassy Bead Company and got it made into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind necklace…

…that Jaia immediately asked to wear.

Heather - Haha, that’s pretty cute.

Gorgeous necklace, btw!

In other, more exciting news…

Dan’s cousin Melanie and her husband Darcy welcomed a son, Owen, early this morning.  We’ve been very anxiously awaiting his arrival and he chose cousin Karlee’s birthday to make his grand entrance.  That’s got to be a great present!

HUGE congrats from us to Mel and Darcy.  We can’t wait to see pictures and meet the little guy.

More from the photoshoot

The weather: Sunny but cold.  The setting: An abandoned park.  The subjects: All related to me, but mostly not to each other.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s Project 365 post, I gathered my sisters and brothers together for a fairly impromptu photoshoot on Saturday before we feasted on a dinner Dan worked on ALL DAY.  The delicious food was their reward for behaving so well as I moved them around and posed them for the good part of an hour, outside, in the cold.  Everyone was so well-behaved and I hardly had any complaints.

One of the best parts for me was that on two separate occasions, Dan and then Jen stepped behind the camera and I got to be in photos!  I exist!  And the ones Jen took of Dan and I are so perfect – I’m in love with them.

I posted them all up on Flickr, but thought I’d post a few of my faves right here so I could admire them more…

Since she was born friends and family have scratched their heads about who Jaia looks like.  She’s definitely not the spitting image of either of us, but there’s no mistaking it, she has her mama’s eyes…
