Cuter than Cute…

Part of my Mother’s Day gift from Jaia and Dan was them willingly, happily and without complaint following me around while I scouted out new photoshoot locations.  I did test shots at each and Jaia was such a trooper from beginning to end – the end being a trip to the park after our dinner out.  She was a very happy bean.

Here’s proof:

Aunty Nissa - She is sooooo adorable! I would do this for you any day if I could, all of your pictures are awesome Shan

Finally…

I can’t blame this on being lazy about uploading and posting my Paris photos, I just took so many that the uploading, minor edits and posting took multiple days.  I’ve actually been posting them slowly on flickr, but I’m not sure people even check flickr anymore…

It feels like we got back so long ago now, that to tell you all about the trip would seem silly.  Let’s just say this:  Go to Paris.  Even if it’s just once.  See all that you can.  Sit and drink wine on a patio.  Speak French.  Eat cheese. Eat more cheese.  Buy a baguette to go.  Go to to the Eiffel Tower at night to see it sparkle.  Walk til your feet hurt.  Ride the Metro.  Go see the Eglise Saint Sulpice.  Eat crepes.  People watch.  Take more pictures than you think you need to.  Wait in line at the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa.  Breathe in the beauty.  Eat cheese again.  Stay in a small boutique hotel off the beaten path.  Explore.  Watch where you step.

As mentioned, most of the photos are already up at flickr but I had to post a few of my absolute favs.  It’s really hard to do this city any justice through a lens.  But I did my best…

rachel Edwards - I am loving these posts – and photos. I have been peeing myself with laughter – although if I was Shannen, I’d probably be close to tears! Still, thanks for the entertainment – I particularly liked the banana delivery. Leo is also very fond of his morning ‘nananananana’.

April 29, 2009 - 11:50 am

mama - I miss the wiggle bum dance!! I’d do one here myself but that means standing up and my feet are much too sore today. I’m thinking a little vino might heal me right up. Off to take care of that.

1 more sleep!

xoxo

Kris - I think that Dan should Daddy-blog on a regular basis. Hilarious! The banana photo was my absolute favorite of the week, followed closely by the bowling video. RATS!

April 29, 2009 - 2:03 pm

Dan - I can fill in in a pinch, but I’m a rusty jalopy compared to the shiny sports car of Shannen’s contributions.

Wow, what a weird/terrible metaphor.

RATS!

Kris - You’re no Lada, Dan. While Shan’s contributions have been missed, you have more than entertained for the week. 🙂

I would like to request a video of the wiggle bum dance sometime down the road. I have a feeling it’s not done justice in photos.

April 30, 2009 - 5:04 pm

rachel Edwards - I second that video request!

Paris – so far…

So, here we are at the end of the 4th day and I finaly found A) an internet café and B) an English keyboard.  Both are making me very happy.  I have been able to check email but composing has been a challenge.  I still can’t find the @ sign on the French keyboard.

I.Love.Paris.   I don’t love Paris weather in the springtime and definitely packed terribly for the trip – but the beauty of this place MORE that makes up for the cloudy skies and cold temperatures.

I have taken hundreds of photos.  It’s a budding photographer’s heaven.  Everywhere you look there is something beautiful to look at and I’ve tried to capture as much of it as I can.  I hope, when I get home and look at the pictures, that I’ve done it justice.

Some highlights and other observations:

  • I rock in French.  I’ve been complemented by strangers and I am extremely proud of myself.  And I’m loving speaking and listening to people speak the language.  I just may be a Francophile and didn’t  know it.
  • Paris is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been in my life – and possibly the stinkiest.  I don’t know if it’s the time of year of terrible luck, but everywhere we go (especially metro stations) it reeks like pee.  And that makes me want to vomit.  I haven’t yet – but have been close.
  • The food.  Oh, wow, the food.  I could eat the bread and butter and cheese every day for the rest of my life.  It’s amazing.  And we have not been disapointed at any meal.  We leave full and happy every time.
  • The wine.  Yum.
  • Our hotel is tiny and adorable and perfectly French.  Including the outlets.  Turns out my hairdryer will overheat and come close to burning my head if I try to use it.  Yes, my bad for not checking.  I assumed that as long as I had the outlet adapter I could use it.  Not so.  I know now, fried head and all.
  • The drivers are CRAZY.  Or the street lights are.  Either way I see at least one person almost get hit every day.  And I’ve been *that* person once..or twice.
  • We have walked 8000 miles since we’ve arrived.  Ok, a slight exaggeration, but just barely.  My feet are aching.  Beyond aching.  Perhaps bruised.   Thanks to those who suggested comfortable shoes, because without them I would likely have to amputate both my feet.  I now totally get why French people are so skinny.
  • The Eiffel Tower visit was so worth it.  And at night, on the half hour, it sparkles.  That may be my favourite thing so far.
  • I was wrong.  I don’t just miss Jaia (and Dan).  It ‘s more than that.  I wish they were here with me.  Next time.
  • The hot dog are ridiculously long.  Weird.

More to come……………….with pictures…

Heather - HAHA, I know EXACTLY what you mean about a) trying to track down the impossible to find internet cafes and b) once you find one, how to type on the keyboards!
I nearly had a fit last time trying to send an email to someone I didn’t have in my address book and not being able to find the @ key.

April 28, 2009 - 12:36 pm

Dan - Have you stepped in any dog poop? That is one of my enduring memories of Paris …

Can’t wait to a) see you, b) see your photos 🙂

April 28, 2009 - 7:23 pm

Auntee Jennee - Can’t wait to see your photos 🙂

I so wish I was there with you too!

April 28, 2009 - 7:23 pm

Auntee Jennee - Meaning in addition to Dan & Jaia…. haha that may have sounded weird.

April 28, 2009 - 9:13 pm

Da(d)ve - Typical French weather for this time of year. Glad you’re having a good time in spite of it. For the French keyboard layout with the “@” see http://www.forlang.wsu.edu/help/kfrench.asp. You use the “Alt-Gr” key in the lower right with e “zero (0)” key at the top right.

Katie - Sounds like a wonderful trip Shan! Can’t wait to hear all about it and see pictures!
