Day 174 – Good Things

Finally.  I needed today.  After months of sleepless nights and very, very, very looooong days that followed, today was good.  So good.  It almost felt as though the three of us finally found our rhythm.

Let me backtrack a little.  The second question I get asked when people meet Wes after what his name is, is if he is sleeping through the night.  I’ve never answered yes.  My boy is not into that.  Actually, he’s not much into sleeping at all.  That’s not how he rolls.  He never naps for more than 20 minutes and only a few times a day.  And if you haven’t spent any time with a baby who doesn’t sleep very much, let me enlighten you – very little sleep makes for a unhappy baby.  And it can make for some long, difficult days and even longer nights – for all of us.

But about 6 days ago, things started to change.  Naps remained short, but the 3+ wakes in the night magically turned into 2.  And then last night, 1.  A single night feed for the first time since May.  I felt so well rested this morning.  And it only got better from there.  The boy napped 3 times today, all for over 45 minutes and once for 1.5 hours!  And all this sleep did wonders.  Wes was happy and smiling and cooing ALL DAY LONG.  And a happy Wes makes for a very, very, very happy mama.

Today was magic.  Today was perfect.  Today gave me hope that tomorrow will be just as good.

Cross your fingers for us…

Day 170 – Halloween: Part Three

The real deal.  Finally, after all the test runs, it was time to put the costume to the test.  Except we didn’t anticipate snow on the ground or the FREEZING temperatures.  Thankfully, neither seemed to bother our girl.  Quite the opposite, in fact.

After a couple of quick stops to see family, we were off!  We headed to Alicia’s house to trick or treat with her girls.  Wes and I lasted for about 20 minutes before heading inside.  The girls and Dan finished up and high-tailed it home red-nosed and ready to dig into the loot.  And, oh the loot.  Mmmmm…Halloween candy.

Until next year!!

Annissa - I love that costume 🙂 Good idea! There was actually a paper-bag princess at the costume party I went to! But Jaia is my favorite 🙂

Day 169 – Halloween: Part Two

My brother and his wife had a Halloween party for the second year in a row.  These two go all out in costume and decoration.  Dan and I, not so much.  We came up with costumes the day off, got ready and off we went.  Dan re-used his Magnum costume and I dressed as Troy Polamalu.  Dan came up with the idea because of my serious love of this commercial.  Here I am as Troy:

Man that wig was itchy.

Here are some pics from the night.  Costumes were awesome but the highlight for me was getting to see with my friend Tim, who I have not seen in close to 20 years.  I was also thrilled when my sister and her husband showed up with Kenny and Renee, two of my all time favourite people.  What could be better than catching up with old friends with a drink in hand and a giant wig on my head.  Love.
