Hello, Winter Blues.

February 11.  I made it this long without the ridiculous whining that you normally expect from me at this time of the year.  But here we are, still cold, still snowy, still icy.  Still winter.  For at least 6 or so weeks.

Barf.

But, we have kids.  And so I do my best to cut the complaining and try to make the best of it for their sakes.  And when you set out for fun with two little in tow, you find it.  In spades.

What are you doing to to ward off the winter blues?

New uses for old things.

I love finding new uses for everyday items.

We have two very short people living with us right now, and therefore we have a ridiculous number of step-stools kicking around.  There’s one in almost every room, because heaven forbid we’d have to go find one in another room when we need one.

A few months ago, Jaia turned one of the stools around and used it like a desk when she was looking for a flat surface to colour on.  Brilliant.  Since then, we’ve used them as small art and crafts project desks.  Also, we use them as snack tables – but only when we aren’t standing on them to reach the milk.

Do you have any new uses for old things that might knock my socks off?

Not counting chickens, but…

So. In case you were wondering, adult humans do not look crazier than when they are doing a celebration dance for their child’s first time peeing on the potty. Trust me. It was the scene at our house last night when out of the blue, Wes used the potty, as, well, a potty.

The same held true this morning when he repeated his new skill. And the same dance of craziness followed and our boy was proud. Or maybe it was the treat we rewarded him with both times that had him smiling. Either way. As soon as he connects crazy happy parents, treats and pee/poop, the happier we’ll all be around here.

We have a long road ahead before we can claim that we’ve changed our last diaper, but we’ve just demolished that first hurdle. Go, Wes!
