Have you heard of anything fatter?

September 21, 2006 - 6:19 pm

heather - That. Is. GROSS!!

And yet…..I’m intrigued.

September 21, 2006 - 8:55 pm

Jen - I think I just threw up a litte.

September 21, 2006 - 8:55 pm

Jen - little

shannen - Is it bad that I’m tempted to try it? And is it that much worse than the MacDonald’s breakfast sandwich that uses pancakes as bread? Ummm, probably.

In a time where people should be trying to eat healthier and take better care of themselves – why is it all these fast food restaurants keep increasing the fat in their new menu items? Or the size? On our trip down to Virginia, we broke down and decided to eat at Burger King. The cheeseburger options included the single, double, triple and the 4 patty! Who needs 4 patties on one burger…with a slice of cheese between each?

For the recored, I got the single. With fries.

September 22, 2006 - 7:29 am

dan - Lies! You totally got the double cheeseburger.

I too am tempted to try it just once. You could totally make these at home … I think I’d use a blueberry fritter …

September 22, 2006 - 7:50 am

shannen - Did I? Whoops.

September 22, 2006 - 9:53 am

mark - I’d eat the shit out of that.

mark - more info:

1000 calories, 45 grams of fat.
for comparison…
big mac: 530 calories, 29 grams of fat

though, if you look at the nutrition info at bk.com, you find these beauties…
bk quad stacker: 1000 calories, 68 grams of fat
triple whopper w/ cheese: 1230 calories, 82 grams of fat (only available in U.S.)
enormous omelette sandwich: 730 calories, 45 grams of fat (for breakfast!)

amazing.

September 22, 2006 - 2:37 pm

dan - Those are some impressive sandwiches (especially the breakfast item.  That wouldn’t put you to sleep at all!), but I found an even more preposterous entry.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you your winner, and champeen of the world, the Hardee’s 2/3 Lb Monster Thickburger! 1410 calories and 107 grams of fat!

Those make Gary’s clover-shaped cabin fatburgers look like sprout sandwiches.

mark - the buttered bun is hilarious.

Blast from my past.

Recently, my friend Ben and I came across a website that listed a bunch of old TVO shows from the late 1970’s – early 1980’s (or at least shows that aired on TVO).  For all you Westerners or those who spent their childhood outside of Ontario, TVO stood for ‘TV Ontario’ and was mostly lame, but had at least a few gems in the line-up that I remember fondly.

Last night I showed the site to Dan and proceeded to dance a little to the theme songs, only to have Dan look at me quizzically.  He had only heard of one or two (and they obviously didn’t bring back the same happy memories for him).  I was shocked and saddened that he hadn’t shared in the joy that these shows once brought me and my brothers.

It wasn’t until later that I figured out that it wasn’t that western Canada wasn’t lucky enough to have access to these shows, it was that the Fullerton’s didn’t have cable until Dan was around 8 years old.  His loss.

Click on the pics to bring back some memories of some of my old faves…oh, and you’ll need speakers.  I had to limit myself to 8…It was hard.

And I didn’t do much digging otherwise, but would have liked to have added The Littlest Hobo (probably my favourite – I loved that pooch), Just Like Mom (the bake-off rocked…I still think my mom and I would have won) and Jackpot! (a game show no one seems to remember but me).  Hopefully I’ll be able to hunt them down in the near future.  Stay tuned!

Old shows are fun.

Sonja - My dad and I loved Jackpot!!

September 22, 2006 - 7:33 am

dan - Ah yes, but you guys didn’t have Switchback, which showed on Regina CBC. If I remember correctly, it was kind of a kids version of Letterman or Leno, 2 hrs long on Sunday morning, and played an old Batman episode in the middle of it. My friend Cory and his grandma were on there as guests because they could touch their tongues to their noses.

Muffy the mouse was creepy. No matter where her head was turned, she was looking … right … at … you.

September 22, 2006 - 8:39 am

Sarah - I totally remember Switchback! I went to school with a girl in Winnipeg….the guy on Switchback is her Dad!

September 22, 2006 - 9:33 am

LISA - we did have some local Ottawa show called Switchback with a host named DAN and at the end there was this big shoe ( a converse high top) and you could call in and pick one of the show lace holes and it would have a prize behind it…..i phoned like mad everyweek…..

September 22, 2006 - 1:11 pm

shannen - When you said Dan was the host it reminded me of the GIANT Dan that used to host video hits. Anyone else a fan of that one?

Giant Dan. He he he…

Washroom revolt.

After piling ourselves and Humphrey into the car, we set off at 4pm on Friday for a good 9-10 hour drive to Virginia. We were pleasantly surprised when Humph decided to snooze after only 2 hours, rather than stare at us with the *please don’t be taking me back to the pound* eyes that we often get from him in the car.

Most of the drive was entertaining and comfortable. But early on we actually stopped at a fill-up station that could have easily broken world records for most revolting bathroom EVER. With each stop one of us would fill up the car and the other would walk the dog. This meant that our bathroom needs would not be met until the end of the pit-stop. On this particular stop I walked Humph even longer while Dan filled the tires with air. By the time he was done, I was doing a little girl pee-dance because I couldn’t wait one minute longer. Dan pointed to where the washroom was and I knew it wasn’t going to be good.

restroom.gifFirst off, at a truck-type stop, if there is only one washroom for both men and women, it might be a good idea not to even open the door. But I was desperate. So I opened it and almost fainted from the stench that poured out. The urinal and toilet were right beside each other, both were clogged, there was no toilet paper to be seen and it looked as though it hadn’t seen a cleaning product since 1992.

I felt so girly, but I couldn’t do it. I explained it to Dan and he chuckled and shook his head. So, I dared him to go in. At first he refused but then realized he needed to wash his hands after having filled the tires. He opened the door, stood there, moved in and held the door open with his foot while he rinsed off his hands. He made sure to touch as little as possible. He saw first hand that I was right, and didn’t question my bathroom standards again.

Then he told me that they were making and serving food inside the store. I gagged a little.

My advice to anyone heading down south…if you ever find yourself on Route 37 and you see a French’s Sunoco gas station…wait. You’ll run into many more washroom/gas/coffee opportunities soon enough. You can thank me later.

Double Birth-day

September 19th is a hard day for me to forget.  Two of my most favourite people in the world, Alicia and Marsha, turn one year older today.   I would normally have been a nice girl and kept their ages a secret, but since they are both younger than me, I’ll willingly tell you that both of these girls are turning the big 3-1.  Ha ha.  Welcome.

Happy Birthday, Ladies.

Alicia - Thanks Shan!!

AND Happy Birthday Marsha! AND Happy Birthday Ted, AND my mom….AND don’t forget Parker.

What a fabulous day!

September 20, 2006 - 8:30 am

Marsha - Whatever! – as if Shannen is younger than us! As I recall, she’s going to be 32! in a few months….

ps…Happy birthday Alicia!

September 20, 2006 - 10:32 am

shannen - Re-read, Marsh…You were too quick to jump the gun. As if I could pull off saying that I’m younger.

Though *looking* younger is a different story… 😉

September 20, 2006 - 11:20 am

dan - September 19th is memorable for a different reason … International Talk Like a Pirate Day!!!!

Funny though, I went into Hallmark and asked to be pointed to the ITLAPD section, and the girl just gave me a blank look, so no one got cards this year …

That is not to belittle the importance of birthdays.  Happy birthday one and all who are fortunate enough to have been born on that 19th day of September.  Arr.

September 21, 2006 - 10:36 am

Marsha - That’s an awful picture of me….doesn’t even look like me. Actually, I don’t think that is me….who is that?

September 21, 2006 - 12:40 pm

shannen - It was either that one or the one from grad at Queen’s. I think I chose wisely.

😉

September 25, 2006 - 8:27 am

Marsha - It’s very disturbing when friends have pics of you that aren’t good – very disturbing….

On the road again…

After a very successful and and, as always, too-short visit to Virginia, we are on our way home. The worst part of the trip. The dreaded part. It feels three hours longer than the drive down and you have to wait 8 hours before you hit the border – which I always worry about because I tend to over-purchase. And we may have actually set an over-purchase record this time. Oops.

I’d better go pack. Blech.
