Fancy Schmancy.

Last Friday was awesome.  My awesome sister-in-law was here and my awesome friend (and neighbour for only a few more weeks 🙁  ) agreed to join us for Michelle’s awesome Fancy Dress Party.  We got all dolled up Chez Fullerton and waited for the only newly wed, Mrs. Sonja Woodington to arrive.

Taking photos on the street was awesome.  Rarely has anyone seen more than one bride in their dresses at the same time, outside, on a Friday night – and we had three.  And one gorgeous bridesmaid.  Surpringly, we only got one honk as we did our photoshoot on the lawn.

A snippet:

And more

The party was…awesome.  So many brides, very little red wine.  Most opted for beverages of the colourless variety, though I’m happy to report that there was no spillage but for a slice of the most delicious chocolate cake.  What a waste.

The oldest dresses were 9 years old.  Three of the girls, including hostess with the mostess (and birthday girl), Michelle, were tied for longest married.  Sonja and Heather were the newbies at under a year.  There was even a guest, getting married this month, who wore the first dress she bought that she decided not to wear.  Honourable mentions go to the bridesmaids, they too looked fabulous and were likely miles more comfortable than I was.  Wedding dresses, though beautiful (mostly), are not comfortable.  At all.

And I can’t wait to put it on again at next year’s celebration.

Heather - Toooo funny! My friends and I have always talked about doing something simillar… so far I’m the only married one, (until summer 09!!) and then it’s game on!!

Apparently lawn mowers don't like winter.

My $45 Lawn Boy 2-stroke lawn mower spent the winter outside in the backyard, as snow came early last fall. I don’t think it liked its winter in the wilds.

After closing the deal to sell our house at the end of May (yes it’s sold. We had posted a celebratory blog entry on forgetful, but it was mysteriously eaten by internet gremlins), the lawn was one of many aspects of the house that we reveled in let get a bit dirty. 3 weeks of living in a show home was enough!

However, things are getting out of hand:

So, with the Lawn Boy dead (it’s likely the spark plug, which I could fix, but …), my only option is to whipper snip the entire yard. That will bring it back down to a length where the manual reel mower is capable of maintaining it.

And the new house has so little grass that the manual is all we’ll need.

Which means the Lawn Boy might become a housewarming gift for the new owners of this place 🙂

Chris - That Lawn-Boy is a pretty sweet parting gift. I especially like the bonus rust spots. 🙂

2 babes, one week. **UPDATE**

Late fall brought about two pregnancy announcements from two of my favourite people, Lisa and Carole.  Their due dates were exactly a month apart, but thanks to the unpredictability of pregnancy and childbirth, we are about to have 2 babes in one week.

Carole gave birth to an absolutely beautiful little girl. Sydney made a very early entrance to the world on June 5th.  I have yet to meet her, but thank to the magic of Facebook, have seen a picture of her with her big brother, Ethan.

Lisa, due on June 1st, is currently in labour a million miles away in BC.  We are anxiously awaiting news by phone or email and her parents and sister have done a marvelous job keeping us in the loop.  Lisa and her husband, Willie, did not find out the sex of the baby, nor did they let any of the names they liked slip out so everything about this delivery is a surprise to us all.  I can’t wait to have more news to report.

Congrats to Carole, Marty and Ethan on the perfect little addition.  Lisa and Willie, we’re anxiously awaiting word that your little bundle has arrived.

2 babes, one week.  How perfect.

An update.  Finally.

Lisa had her new baby girl yesterday afternoon.  She named her Pearl, which was my grandmother’s name.  Not that she named her daughter after my grandmother – purely coincedental – but it just means I’m very partial to the name.  It’s beautiful, as I’m sure that wee baby girl is.

Also, I wanted to say congratulations to my good friend Tessa who also gave birth to a baby girl, who she named Amelie, at the end of May.  I’m still waiting on pictures of this cutie too…but if she looks anything like her big sister, she’s gonna be a knock out.

It looks like good things really do come in threes.  Congrats to the new and second time mamas once again.  Babies, babies everywhere.  It’s almost tempting…

Warning: spoilers ahead …

I stumbled across this today … and have to share.  Never in the history of man has so much potential disappointment been concentrated into such a small area.  Buy the t-shirt version here.

Dan - I get them all except Kristin J.R. Anyone? Bueller?

June 9, 2008 - 5:01 pm

gary - Kristin kills J.R. Dallas? Hello?

I don’t get the Soylent Green reference.

June 9, 2008 - 6:45 pm

Dan - Ah. I never watched Dallas.

Soylent Green is a terrible Charlton Heston movie. And if you haven’t seen it, you’ve missed at least 5 Simpsons allusions over the years.

contributor mark - the “you bastard” was directed at Dan.

I’m currently reading book 5. I believe Dumbedore dies in book 6.

you bastard.

gary - I can confirm Dumbelore’s demise in book 6.

I also had that spoiled before I read book 6 but I didn’t know Snape killed him.

Dooce likes 'em too!

One of my very favourite morning reads is www.dooce.com.  She’s a mom, a wife, an excellent photographer, a phenomenal writer and a smart ass.  I’d like to think that if we lived in the same area (we don’t, she’s in Utah) that we could hang out, have a glass of wine and have a grand ol’ time because we have a lot in common.  Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure she’d think I was a big dork, but in my imaginary world I’m awesome and she’d agree.

Anyway, the other day I was checking out her ‘Daily Style’ page, which I LOVE, and was thrilled to see her raving about one of my own faves.  A few months back I told you about the wallet Jen gave me for Christmas.  Well, I had always intended to post a picture of it and tell you who where you could pick one up for yourself, but completely forgot.  So, here it is.  All wrapped up in a post where I’m bragging about owning an item Dooce thinks is stylish.
