We stayed close to home this year. It was the first of many that boasted phenomenal weather and we took full advantage and spent nearly the whole day outside…which did not do much for the all the packing we had planned to do. Hello, Procrastination. But well worth it.

Happy Canada Day!       My beer purchases are driven by two elements: price and taste. When price wins, I come home with James Ready or another recent favourite PC genuine lager (yes, really!). When taste wins, the old standby has been Creemore Springs Lager (the winner of a previous OAFE). In recent months though, McAuslan Pale Ale has taken most of Creemore’s market share. Roughly the same color as Creemore, it’s packed full of flavor and body. It’s brewed in Montreal, which provides the opportunity for a pilgrimage in the near future. And while poking around their website, I discovered that they have a female brewmaster, which I would guess is rare, but have no statistics to support that opinion. Hail, McAuslan Pale Ale, and your difficult-to-spell moniker. I shall imbibe you tomorrow in celebration of our country’s birthday and your Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence!

yeah, it’s good. in other beer news, American craft beers are going to slowly start appearing at the LCBO, which is awesome. Maybe it’ll eventually lead to the end of this weirdly patriotic “american beer is weak crap water” silliness. initial offering: By looking at her parents, you know there’s just no way this kid has a chance of staying blonde. But for right now, I can’t get enough of her beautiful, blonde curls.

Wow…she just gets more gorgeous every day. Those photos are beautiful…can’t wait to see those curls in a couple of weeks!

is she giving a partial scowl-face in the first one? 😉 she is so adorable. can’t wait to see you guys again next week! auntie jen. The first bouquet of flowers, handpicked by Jaia for her mama. I hope this is the first of many. That kid really knows how to brighten a room.
Dan is super dad. Seriously. Cape and all. Jaia and I (especially Jaia) are so lucky. For Father’s Day we bought Dan a beautiful map to be framed and hung in his new office at our new house. In typical Shannen style, I drove him to the map store and let him pick it so that I was sure it would be one he’d really like. Thankfully, he loved the idea. On Father’s Day, for the first time, Dan’s mom, sisters and brother were in town to share the day with him. We ran some errands, shopped a little, tried to go to Moxie’s for lunch (a massive storm knocked out the power and we couldn’t even order – boo) and then came home, waited out the rain and had a perfect little BBQ surrounded by family. Jaia was in her glory. Her dad was pretty happy too. Later in the evening, we pulled out some old photos of Dan when he was a young lad. More and more I’m surprised at how much Jaia looks like her dad. What do you think??
The post is late, but the sentiments are still the same. Happy Father’s Day to Dan and to the Pappy, the Gramps and the Grandpas in our lives. We hope your day was perfect too.
