My mom makes the hats. They are awesome. We are going to start selling them soon, so get your orders in now! 🙂 And Jaia gives us that “whachoo talkin’ bout?” face a lot. Apparently we aren’t very believable.

That first picture of Dan and Jaia reminds me of ‘Kuato’ in Total Recall. “Quaid..Quaid..Start the reactor. Free Mars!” Subsidized ethanol increases demand for corn, which is also used to feed dairy cows, which make cheese. Funny things happen when the equilibrium of an economy is perturbed by governments picking winners …

To make matters worse, the US imposes a duty of $0.54 a gallon on ethanol imports from Brazil made from sugar cane as opposed to feed corn. Because the US and Canada use feed corn for ethanol, food and fuel prices are inflated while there is an excess of sugar cane which can’t be used for feed. Incidentally the energy yield conversion on sugar cane ia about 5:1; on corn it is about 1.5:1. Government may be stupid but we chose every member of Congress and Parliament! A friend in our weekly playgroup has an awesome photo studio set up in her basement. We met at her place a couple of weeks ago and spent the afternoon taking pics of all the little ones… Here are a few of my favourites:

Yes, that second one is a shot for the ages. Shan, make sure you get a good-quality print of this NOW, as this is one of the ones you’ll DEFINITELY want to pull out and flap in front of her friends’ faces when she’s a teenager and gives you lip. |
