Diane Belanger - Looks like a well fed baby to me!!

February 9, 2007 - 9:12 am

Alicia - That is by FAR my favourite so far. I adore the ‘screw on’ hands!!

February 12, 2007 - 4:26 pm

Lizzie Jean - Sooooooooooooo cute. She does look like she’s eating well!!!!!

February 13, 2007 - 2:24 pm

shannen - She’s my daughter…of course she’s eating well!!

😉

February 15, 2007 - 6:30 pm

Kris - She has such a pretty little face. Can’t wait to see her again. 🙂

…And baby makes 4!

I thought I’d take a short break from blogging about my own baby…

…to blog about someone else’s! I’ve been keeping this one a secret for some time, but was finally given the go-ahead to announce the good news. Lisa, Joel and Cameron Menard’s family will be growing by ‘two feet’ sometime in late August. I couldn’t be happier. And neither could Jaia. The more playmates the better.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of you.

(Thanks to Tim Forbes for the photo).

February 6, 2007 - 6:43 pm

Jen - ConGratulations Menards!

I am very happy for you 🙂

Jen

ps. you should all know my anti-spam word was garold. Funny!

February 7, 2007 - 12:44 pm

Lisa - Thanks for the congrats. We are pretty excited and we are going on Valentine’s Day to listen for a heartbeat. You can’t get much more perfect than that!

There is a debate going on about the baby’s gender (sounds familiar?) and I’m wondering if anyone has any old wives tales or tricks to determine what it is going to be…?

Lisa

February 7, 2007 - 5:05 pm

shannen - SO MANY OLD WIVES’ TALES. But most are just that, old and tales. Almost all that I came across confirmed my suspicion, that I was having a boy. 😐 And we all know how wrong I was.

1. Heart rate over 144 = girl, under = boy (Jaia was around 140-148 the whole time)
2. If you are all belly = girl (though I actually heard the opposite as well)
3. The old ring test. If the ring swings back and forth = boy, in a circle = girl (a cousin did this to me and it swung back and forth

ETC.

What are you feeling? My intuition sucked. Obviously.

February 7, 2007 - 5:11 pm

Jen - My prediction is:

GIRL!

February 8, 2007 - 10:05 am

Lisa - I did the ring test and it swung in huge circles…it was actually a little freaky. Joel even tried it and had the same result. I tried it over my hand and the same thing. When I moved my hand away the thing STOPPED completely. I think I may take my magic trick on the road! My intuition says girl but it isn’t like I’m a seasoned pro….

Is there a dress code?

White Castle is a McDonald’s type chain in the USA. They’re fancying up this year for Valentine’s Day, offering hostess seating, candlelight, and table service.

Reservations required.

Girls: would your guy get points for this?  In a cute and thoughtful kind of way?  Or would you resent smelling like french fry grease after your romantic dinner?

Thankfully, we’ll be uncelebrating Valentine’s Day the way we uncelebrate it every year: with a visit from a sister.  The last few years they have been more Liz-y, but this year it’s of the Auntie Jen persuasion … and a Grandma Lois too!

February 6, 2007 - 3:29 pm

Heather - I would find this hilarious….as long as it didn’t happen to me.

February 6, 2007 - 3:30 pm

Heather - It does remind me of the time my friend Jon and I prank called McDonalds and Dairy Queens all around Victoria (oh, the reckless joy of youth) and tried to get reservations for two, with a view.

Good times.

February 6, 2007 - 6:48 pm

Jen - White Castle on Vday = -5 points

February 7, 2007 - 9:41 am

EAP - How dare you compare White Castle to MacDonalds!!! SHAME ON YOU!!! That’s like comparing a Porsche to a Lada; Lawrence Olivier to Jim Belushi; The Beatles to Snoop Dogg; Winston Churchill to Stephane Dion. There simply IS no comparison.

White Castle is North America’s oldest fast food franchise and also its best. It is the creme de la creme of hamburger purveyors. A sack of 10 Sliders, crinkle cut fries and a chocolate shake at The Castle is a thing of beauty, to be eaten with a Wimpey-like reverence. It is the veritable Holy Eucharist of fast food meals.

So please, next time you try to make this kind of comparison – think about it first.

February 7, 2007 - 2:16 pm

dan - I haven’t been to White Castle, so cannot accurately compare, and will make a point of hitting one next time I’m in their area. But I have to challenge your claim that they’re the pinnacle of fast food. Have you been to an In N’ Out Burger?

Donny Kerabatsos said it best … those are good burgers, Walter.

February 7, 2007 - 2:59 pm

mark - “The Beatles to Snoop Dogg Nickelback”

that’s better.

This is a genius idea, I think. Cashing in on the “romantic but stoned” demographic. nice.

In n’ Out’s pretty good and I’ve definitely never been to the one near Larry Sellers house, but I think A&W is superior, especially the one in Kingston near the 401.

February 7, 2007 - 7:12 pm

EAP - You can argue about the relative merits of In ‘n Out or A&W – I’ve tried them and they both have their merits. The Dubs has unbeatable onion rings and their root beer is second to none. In ‘n Out has a way with minced beef that is not to be sniffed at.

But White Castle leaves them both in the dust. They make these little two bite hamburgers (called “Slyders”) that will have you re-livng all of those Popeye cartoons you saw as a youth where Wimpey makes one burger after another disappear down his cake hole with reckless abandon. You buy them by the sack, for God’s sake!

Go and try them . You will measure all future hamburgers you eat by White Castle Standards.
