Triple digits already! Unbelievable. I can’t believe how quickly time flies by. But a better number to celebrate today is 6. That’s the number of hours Jaia slept consecutively last night. I actually woke up, and like every mother before me, wondered if something was wrong. Happily, Jaia was A-OK, and I’m feeling quite rested because after she fed at 3:30am, she then immediately went back to sleep for another 4 hours. It was magical. And no, I won’t fool myself into thinking that this is how it is going to be from now on, but if we are moving ever so slightly in the direction of longer sleep periods, I’m happy. Let’s celebrate with photos. Who knew they made turtleneck shirts for babies?

She looks like she should be reciting poetry or spoken word or something. My Anti-spam word was “liljaia” ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
In the past three years since we leased the truck we have moved, gotten married, gone camping countless times, helped friends move, driven to Virginia, adopted a 70lb dog and now, had a baby. All of these things made having a truck more than handy. And now, because of the last two, the truck has been invaluable. We seriously could not have gotten around this winter without the space the truck provides. But what also came with the baby is a year of maternity leave. This means two things to our family: only 55% of my income for the next 9 months and less than 50% of a need for a second vehicle. We consider ourselves very lucky that Dan works only 5 kms from home and since he will likely bike to work every day this spring/summer, our need for the truck is further reduced. So we started to ask ourselves if we really need the second vehicle. Need? No. Want and love? Yes. Unfortunately, the want and love lost out this time. It just doeasn’t make sense to keep the truck if it sits there most days unused, as it did this winter. So we advertised at AADA Leasing and have had two hits. Two people are interested in taking over the lease ASAP, which means we are about to say adios to the freedom two cars brings us, and hello to one-car-family status. I feel sad but also a little relieved that I no longer have to justify why we decided to get a truck in the first place. I will sleep just a little easier at night knowing that I am a little less to blame for the the thinning of the ozone layer and the polar bears losing their hunting ground to global warming. I can once again claim to be environmentally conscious. For now, anyway.

It has a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine, and gets better gas mileage than a minivan or mid-sized sedan like a Taurus. Your guilt is misplaced. But the truck will be missed … <

Admittedly childless though I am, I have lived completely carless for a decade, and love it! I’m sure you’ll find you adjust very quickly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looking forward to Interpol at the new Capital Music Hall this Sunday. I only caught one show at the old Capital Music Hall (Feist), which is surprising because a ton of good bands came through there. The new Arcade Fire album has been in heavy rotation these past few weeks. As it grows on me, so does the profound sadness that I won’t be at the May shows in Montreal. Stupid Ticketmaster. Current favourite (with no signs of being dislodged anytime soon): antichrist television blues. Owen Pallett (aka Final Fantasy) is at the Black Sheep tomorrow night. I’m a big fan of his solo layered style. However, our days of last minute plans to see live shows are behind us 🙂 We had tickets last time he played there, but I forget why we couldn’t use them …

Btw, Dan, I don’t know if you know, but one of our staff here at the Federation, Diane Belanger, is the mother of Ben Belanger, who works here sometimes; he’s in As The Poets Affirm, and their drummer is, I believe, brother to Arcade Fire’s drummer. So, like, you almost know someone who almost knows someone in that band. Cool, eh? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

dan - Our heads are even at the same angle 🙂
Kel Parsons - Okay, _totally_ unrelated, but guys, I bought a small Furminator off eBay–and was REALLY impressed. Especially by the fact that my oldest, crankiest cat, the Empress Josephine Eugenie (aka Josie), not only tolerated it, but plopped herself down on the spot and purred loudly while being Furminated. We’re going to try to get into the habit of regular Furmination. It’s impressive.
Thanks for the tip!
