Cool…yet freaky.

The ultrasound today was phenomenal, but there’s something about them that I find a little freaky.  Not the baby part, but the how-much-you-can-see-part.  They actually measured everything from the kidneys to the bones.  We got to see Peanut’s tiny feet, face, arms, spine, stomach and her big brain ;).  It was very neat.  Very worth it.

I’m thrilled that technological advancements now allow us to check on baby’s progress(whereas my mother just had to cross her fingers and hope for 40 weeks), but I feel like we are almost given too many options nowadays.  One of these options is the 3D ultrasound.  Don’t get me wrong, I think the idea is neat, but it’s a bit scary to see as much detail as you do.  Here are a couple of non-Peanut examples that I *borrowed* from the internet:

Cool, but slightly…alien.  And there’s worse.  I think this may be a yawn, but it looks like something straight out of the movie The Grudge.  Ew.

I prefer the fuzzy, black-and-white, not-too-frightening vagueness of the old school ultrasound.  Introducing the 20-week old Peanut.  Now there’s a good-looking kid.

Kris - If your child looked like that screaming alien in the second photo, I’d be seriously concerned.

BGF looks quite peaceful…cute! Thanks for sharing. She better get used to the camera. I’m going to be macro-functioning her feet quite often.

Lizzie Jean - I’m going to have nightmares now.
