Obligatory Peanut Update.

at-19-weeks-1.jpgSo here we are. Halfway through. 20 weeks. I can’t believe how fast and slow it went, all at the same time. I also never thought I’d have to pee this much. And apparently, it only gets worse. Excellent.

This week may bring us yet another milestone. We have an ultrasound scheduled on Wednesday, where we might get to find out the baby’s gender. As you may remember from previous posts, Dan is positive that the Peanut is a girl. Dan is wrong. I’ve been feeling that it’s a boy from the very beginning and I am excited to finally have my proof in pictures. And my proof brings me a new lens for my camera (my end of the wager), which sweetens the news even more.

Finding out the gender, though controversial with some members of our family, will also allow us to start picking and narrowing down names. Though I thought I had picked out my baby’s name years ago (pre-pregnancy and even pre-Dan), once you actually have to pick a name that will need to last forever (and look decent on a resume – my personal criteria), the task becomes daunting. Well, it did for me anyway. Names that I thought I loved turned into names I would, now, barely settle for. So, by narrowing the field to just one gender, the task becomes doable. Sort of. We’ll probably still be forced to pick off a short list once the little one arrives…But at least a short list will exist.

This week’s ultrasound will also be the first time Dan has seen the baby since the one at 8 weeks. Though that was an amazing experience in itself, the difference between what we saw that day and what I saw solo at the 12 week appointment was night and day. At the first one, the Peanut looked like a little bean with a teeny flutter in it. By week 12, that bean had turned into a real live baby. And this week’s is 8 weeks later than that one. I can’t wait.

Kris - That is a really gorgeous photo, Shan. Seriously.

I’m with Dan. I think BF is a girl. And if I’m wrong, I will buy you a piece of peanut butter pie.

No, this is not just an excuse to eat peanut butter pie. BF is totally a girl.

Shannen - A new camera lens AND peanut butter pie? Holy smokes! I’ll take all you non-believers on. Anyone have anything else to offer?

dan - Can’t wait to see the picture of her on Wednesday!

I’m more excited to meet her in January than to win the bet, but I’ll take the win for now 🙂

LISA - I think you guys should post the ultrasound picture for the rest of us and we can try to see if we can guess if it’s a boy or girl….this is also just my way of getting to see the ultrasound pictures.

p.s. That belly is amazing.

Kris - Wait…you didn’t say what happens if Dan wins! What does he get if it’s a girl?

Also, if it’s a girl, peanut butter pie is on you.

dan - My prize is twofold: a) a new video game b) harassment-free time to play said video game for a period sufficient for me to get sick of said video game before I finish it, which is what always happens.

Shannen - Mrs Lisa Menard, you make a good argument. We don’t actually get to choose which pictures they print out for us, but if there is one that shows off the private parts (or lack thereof), we will post it and ask for guesses. (Though I suggest that you all go with *boy*, if you want a chance at being right, that is…;)

As for the peanut butter pie…If it’s a girl, I’ll extend an open invitation to those who were right and will buy pie for them all. Now, if that’s not confidence, I don’t know what is.

So there.
