Snippety snip

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not very experimental with my hair. A couple of terrible mistakes along the way have provided me with the proof that I should leave well enough alone. I like long hair. And for the first twenty-some years of my life I had the exact same hair style, just cut to varying lengths. There were no layers back then. I just had long, very straight hair.

As some of you may remember, I got a pretty significant amount of hair chopped off when I was pregnant with Jaia.

It was very un-characteristic of me to do something so drastic, and I can’t deny sneaking peeks at myself in every available mirror on the way home in sheer panic. I liked it, but it was soooo different, and I wasn’t used to different. I don’t do different. But I grew to really, really like it – when I wasn’t hating it. There were no more ponytails (how my longish, frizzy, not quite straight, not quite curly hair ends up most days) but there was a major reduction in the amount of time spent drying, straightening and otherwise styling my hair. Bonus.

But of course, as I was loving the new me, I missed the long locks of yesteryear. I found myself looking at women with long, flowing locks, feeling green with envy.  So I let my hair grow back out…and that brings us to today. And I’m sitting here contemplating another cut. I have a style in mind (above the shoulders but below the chin), and have shown the picture to some friends and family – but the opinions have been split right down the middle. I’m not worried about the style not suiting me, I’m more afraid of regretting actually cutting it. (Point to note: I am standing as Matron of Honour in my sister’s wedding in April, on a beach, in hot and humid Dominican Repbulic. Cue frizz).

To cut, or not to cut: that is the question.

jason - Here’s the great thing about a cutting hair, it grows back. I don’t understand girls.

Shannen - Jas,

I see your point. But boys don’t tend to grow their hair to the middle of their back so it’s usually less of an issue for them. Compare it to say….a beard. If you’ve spent months and months (or years for some fellas) growing prime facial hair, some might think twice about shaving it off.

And if they are growing their hair that long, it’s likely a mullet and there should be no question about whether or not to chop it off…

I take it that you are on Team Cut!. I’ll make not of your vote.

Jessie - Alright! That’s it. Shan: It’s time for a mullet. Really, it’s the only way you will get the best of both worlds. Head on over to http://www.mulletsgalore.com for inspiration!

jason - as a reply to that, i will grow a beard and then shave it off to show support. it’s already been about a month since i shaved anyway
