You were a good house. An excellent first home, I may even venture to say. We had many great times here (too many to list) – but I won’t miss you. Not one bit.
Things I’m looking forward to in our new neighbourhood:
- The commute. Though it is the same distance, I will spend far less time actually travelling to and from work each day. Quality of life improvement = 8 points.
- The new house. It’s bigger and I adore the lay-out. It puts 973 to shame. Quality of life improvement = 11 points.
- Choice. Having the chance to choose all the interior colours and flooring was awesome. It removes any chance of ever saying the words “I can’t believe that they actually thought this _______ was a good idea” in the new house. Don’t forget, the past owners of 973 did paint the main walls blue and pink. Quality of life improvement = 9 points.
- The backyard. We are on a corner lot and our new backyard is at least 3 times the size of our current (soon to be old) backyard. It will make backyard gatherings possible and there will be lots of room for the Humph to do his morning crazy run. Quality of life improvement = 18 points (minus 5 right now because the sod is not down and the fence is not up – but the potential is huge).
- Our street. Not only is the name not as ridiculous as ‘Goose River’ (off of Goldeneye), but we have no houses in front of us and will therefore not have cars littering all parts of the street. At any time of day, any season of the year, driving your car down Goose River was like navigating a labyrinth. Quality of life improvement = 7 points.
- The amenities. We have just spent the last 2.5 years in an amenity-free zone. At first we were offered only a gas station, and then a year later, a grocery store, but anything else was at least a 20 minute drive. Our new house is one block away from (listed in no particular order) a Starbucks, a Pho place, a Shawarma place, a Shopper’s Drug Mart, a Loeb and a Roger’s Video. Better yet, we are 0.5 kms from a jazz bar, 1.5 kms from a movie theatre, the gym, shopping galore and 2 kms from a FARM BOY! Glorious. Quality of life improvement = a whopping 26 points.
Let’s add that up…
8 + 11 + 9 + 18 + 7 + 26 = 79 – 5
= 74
A 74% improvement of Quality of Life. Even half that number would have been worth it.
