Last night we had to say goodbye to an old friend. I have to admit, it wasn’t easy. Dan came upstairs and handed me a yogurt container filled with…….Ned. I thought I would have had time to mentally prepare, but no, Ned had already been captured and was facing immediate relocation.
I carefully took my old friend outside and placed the container on the ground. Now don’t forget, I was feeling sad and emotional because I knew that a long and tumultuous relationship was coming to a forced end – but I’m still fricking terrified of spiders! This whole episode has not been easy for me. So, even as I was preparing to say goodbye forever, I was petrified. There I was lying on the ground trying to capture the event, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that Ned had already escaped from his plastic prison and had found his way down the back of my shirt (I still get the heebie jeebies just thinking about it). There was nothing left to do, but speed up the release so I avoid the risk of a face to face encounter, or worse yet, a sneak attack.
I wonder if Ned is as scared for himself as I am for him. Out there it’s eat or be eaten. For his sake, I hope he’s the eater.
If you happen to run into Ned someday…tell him I say hi…and don’t squish him.
Kris - Again, Ned has brought a tear to my eye.
Poor Ned. I wish him all the very best.
shannen - The house has been just a little emptier without our Ned. Laundry will never be the same chez Fullerton.
Kris - I have now heard the full story and would just like to point out that Dan’s forced eradication of Ned the Spider was just a tiny bit on the harsh side. You’re still there for a couple of months…why now?? Why force Shannen through this pain so soon?
