Day 295 – Ma ma ma ma ma

Finally!  The little bean has been babbling for quite some time now, and has mastered some the key sounds she’ll need for the chatterbox she’s likely to become – she is my daughter, after all.  She was impressing us with how quickly she was running through the consonants and picking up new ones…but for a long time, one important one was missing.  M.  The critical one for learning to say ‘mama’.

She had picked up her ‘D’ a couple of months ago and used ‘da da da da da’ all the time.  Even when I would be secretly saying ‘ma ma ma ma ma’ in her ear, she would respond joyously with ‘da da da da’.  Dan was pleased as punch.

But then this morning, Dan brought her in to wake me up and the first sounds out of her mouth were the long awaited ‘ma ma ma mas’.  YAY!  By no means do we consider these to be her first words – the dog, cats, lawnmower and lunch have all been called ‘buh buh buh’, ‘da da da’ and ‘ka ka ka’ for awhile.  But I am thrilled that I am finally on equal footing with her dada in the race for who she actually calls on first.  Excellent.

Since I can’t have a POTD post without a photo, I thought I’d choose one that shows Jaia in one of the few short moments during the day where she isn’t constantly babbling away…..Enjoy.  I know I do.
