I have collected Disney movies since I was a teenager.  It seemed strange then to be paying $25-$30 for cartoons…even to me.  But no matter.  I kept at it and acquired quite a collection – albeit a fairly useless collection for a high school/university student.

And then VCRs were replaced by DVD players and I was a little bit screwed.  My obsolete VHS tapes sat in an unpacked box through our last two moves collecting dust.

But then we insitututed Friday ‘movie night’ at our house.  We have pizza, pop popcorn and picnic in front of the TV.  The movie is always Jaia’s choice.  As you can imagine, the first few weeks we were forced into watching yet another episode of Dora.  Then it changed to “Mermaid” (The Little Mermaid).  Lately, Madagascar.  Thankfully, now that our playroom is ready – and equipped with a fully functional TV and VCR – we suddenly have more choice for our Friday night flick selection.  My movies and all the money I spent on them over the years are finally not for naught.  Having a little one to share them with makes it all worth every penny.

The bean’s latest faves (so far) are The Fox and the Hound and 101 Dalmations.  Excellent choices.  I’m betting she’ll love Lady and the Tramp too, just like her mama did (still does).

Gen - Please don’t banish me from Forgetful.ca but I have to confess…I’ve never seen The Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmations or The Fox and the Hound!

{I’m bowing my head in shame as I write this}

There is just something about puppies and forest/jungle animals in distress that I just can’t deal with…it stresses me out! I thought as I got older that I would be better able to cope, so I braved seeing The Lion King only to find myself wanting to leave the theatre during the stampede scene! It was awful!

Apparently though…we’ve discovered that ocean dwelling adventures are an exception to the rule! I made it through both The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo…happily even!

I’m not sure what the deal is with that but I’ll take what I can get!

Heather - Ummm….Saturday night my gf Lindsay and I watched Cinderella. It used to be my FAVORITE. So I’m with you on the Disney movies. There is something about them that makes me feel safe and happy, like a kid.

Chris - Ha.. Amelia just watched 101 Dalmatians yesterday!

Kris - I’m with Gen…I never liked the animal ones. Though, the Lion King I could handle…but the Fox and the Hound always, always made me cry. And don’t even get me started on Bambi.

The Little Mermaid was and always has been my #1, followed closely by the remaining Disney Princess movies (minus Pocahontas…I’ve never seen it), and Finding Nemo. I should start my own collection!

EAP - I see that “Fantasia” is part of your collection. When Jaia gets into her late teens, you can fire up a doobie with her and watch one of the best doper’s movies of all time.

Kris - Hahahaha. Oh…Fantasia. Brilliant movie. It confused the hell out of me until I was old enough to “appreciate” it.
