Winter has arrived!

I was abducted by aliens.  That’s the only explanation that makes any sense.  It’s more likely than a Shannen that has been eagerly anticipating the arrival of snow like I have for the past few weeks.

I’ve said it before.  I. Do. Not. LIke. Snow.  Or winter at all, actually.

But this year, I’ve had ants in my pants about it’s delayed arrival and wanting nothing but to send Wes to the window to look outside and see his expression when h notices the white stuff has blanketed the ground overnight.  He’s 2 and a half and is in the beautiful stage where he is starting to ‘get’ all the things that we adults cherish about childhood.  Christmas, and wintertime in general, fill him with a sense of awe at this stage, and I’m so excited to get to watch it all unfold.

On Saturday afternoon, much to my surprise, it started snowing in the early afternoon.  Not just snow, but beautiful snow!  Giant flaked snow.  Maybe the biggest, fluffiest flakes I’ve ever seen.

As soon as Wes was up from his nap, I got my wish.  We sent him to the back door to look out and he yelled, “SNOW!!  It’s snowing!”  And not 5 minutes later, both kids (and both parents) were dressed in their gear and enjoying the mild weather.

And what comes naturally with fluffiest snow?  Snowman building!!

I even dug out the AMAZING $9 snowman kit I picked up last winter.  Unfortunately, we had a pitiful snowman season in 2012 and it didn’t get used…until now.  So adorable.

So proud!

He is cute.  Or was.  It was a little TOO warm and Frosty keeled over an hour later.  But the kids were inside, sipping on hot chocolate with marshmallows and were none the wiser.

I hear we are expecting more snow tonight.  Perhaps Frosty will get a second chance tomorrow.  But if not, there’s a looooong winter ahead of us and many more opportunities in store.

Cathy - Hi Shannen Wesley, Mykayla and I are looking at your snowman pics! So cute. The kids look like they are having a blast! Where did you pick up your snowman kit???? I would love to do that with the kids too (when we get more fluffy snow). That was an awesome Saturday afternoon!!!
