I used to write here every once in a while, posting my latest bizarre find from the world wide web, reporting on my latest travel adventure, or just letting some stream-of-consciousness drivel loose on the world. I’ve been quiet recently. And I hope that you don’t think that it’s because of you, dear reader. It’s not you. It’s me.
Recording thoughts for posterity isn’t the only hobby that’s fallen off the priority list. It joins doing fun things with my wife, running, reading, walking the dog, video games, electronics tinkering, and home improvements at the bottom of the dust bin of my mind.
In a period I will call AJ, I used to maintain a fairly healthy life balance. In the last year (let’s call that PJ), that’s all fallen apart. Earthquake #1 was an adorable little creature named Jaia, who is terribly fun but an incredibly time-consuming being to keep alive and stimulated. Earthquake #2 was a job change that was welcome, needed and refreshing, but fills the vast majority of my waking hours.
I’m slowly adjusting. Humph got a walk last night in the freshly fallen snow. I’ve started reading for pleasure again. We’re trying to commit to one night a week where instead of eating at 4:30pm with Jaia, we wait until she goes to bed to prepare dinner, keep the TV off and reconnect.
But forgetful.ca hasn’t crept back out of the bucket. You’ll be the first to know.
Shannen - Ah yes, AJ. When I had boundless energy and free time to spare…Those were the days. Fun, but FAR less cute and nowhere near as fulfilling. Plus, I’m skinnier now and work way less hard at it. Now that’s rewarding. I wouldn’t trade these days in for anything.
I’m glad Forgetful Dan is back. It’s nice to see a post written by someone other than me.
