The grandma came back…

Dan and I can colour ourselves lucky. The day before he was forced to go back to work after Jaia was born, my mom arrived, with super cape and all. OK, no cape, but she may as well have had one on.

Bringing a newborn home can be overwhelming. I think Dan and I did amazingly well during the first week…but the reinforcements were 100% welcome. Mom became live-in maid, cook, shoulder to lean on, and all around care-taker of all of us, including Humphrey and the cats. It was awesome.

But it had to come to an end. Dave drove up on Friday to pick mom up and take her home. We avoided the topic of her departure all weekend. But on Sunday morning, they loaded up the car and left. I’ll admit that some tears were shed. As much as I needed to do this whole ‘mom’ thing on my own, I was going to miss the companionship.

An hour after they left, the phone rang. Car trouble. They were an hour out and would have to come back because there was no way they could do the rest of the 8 hour drive without getting the car fixed. Turns out the garage is going to need a few days to order in the parts. That means mom will be staying until Sunday. An extra week. Unplanned. Excellent.

I swear I had nothing to do with it. Though I can safely uncross my fingers now. 😉
