Maximum Chaos

I am so thankful that this is our last move. Maybe not ever, but for sure before my 50th birthday.

We have moved every 2 years since 2004. We bought Goose River in 2004, then moved to Nittany Cr in 2006, then All the Way Out To Orleans and Tooney Dr in 2008, and now our new digs in 2010.

2 years is enough time to forget how chaotic, stressful and flat out not fun a move is. Every move has gotten successively more complex as well. At first it was from a rental to a town home (no kids, less stuff), then from a town to new construction (no kids, a little more stuff), then from new construction into a smaller place across town (movers hired, Jaia 6 months old), and now a few streets away, but so much stuff it’s not funny, and 2 kiddles in tow.

Through each of these moves, Shannen has been project manager extraordinaire, coming up with a plan and timeline shortly after we sign papers on what has to happen when and by whom. She worked tirelessly to pack and get us ready, all while juggling kids, hobbies and the rest of life’s priorities.

I have contributed my part in things, but very limited compared to her. I’m responsible for utilities, contractors and services, outside stuff, garage stuff, electronics, my clothes, etc. The little stuff. My target dates and level of commitment often varied wildly from the project manager’s expectations. This sometimes leads to conflict. For that I apologize. I always knew that my stuff would get done in time, but my style of “work well under pressure” and “procrastinate until you can’t anymore” caused a lot of suffering over the past week.

This is a thank you to my wife, who was the reason this move was successful, for all her hard work. And an apology for not doing more, or doing the same things sooner, in all aspects of the move.

Let’s get everything unpacked and back to normal life.
