Day 183 – Half birthdays.

We celebrated Jaia’s in June, so why not celebrate Wes’ in November.  That’s right.  My boy is already 6 months old.  I cannot believe the change in him in such a short time.

When Jaia was a baby, I really, really thought I would never forget any of the big moments.  Or, to be honest, any of the little moments either.  They seemed so important at the time, and they still are, but they inevitably fade with passing years and my shrinking memory.

Each month of Wes’ life so far has had me questioning myself about when things are supposed to happen/start/end/change based on the fact that I have already lived through it once before and it turns out, I mostly have no idea.  I’ve forgotten it all.

So as Wes approached 6 months old, I forgot just how monumental this month is in the life of a baby.  It means eating solids, sitting up (he was exactly the same age Jaia was when she started!) and if Wes follows in his sister’s ‘footsteps’ as he has so far, 6 months might also mean crawling.  Yikes!  6 months old and already on the move.  I better be careful what I wish for.  😐

He’s a much different guy than he was a few short months ago.

I’m not gonna lie.  The first few months, okay all 5, were hard.  Wes was a happy guy a lot of the time, but a lot of the time he wasn’t.  And he barely slept, so I was too tired to enjoy the really great, super fun moments.  I was delirious some days.  And like a zombie on the others.

But then, over the last week or so, Wes became a new kid.  A constantly happy, belly-laughing kind of kid.

A sleep a little longer at night kid.  No, not through the night yet, but I’ll happily settle for one wake up over three any day.  Now if only we could coax him back to sleep at 5 am rather than being up at that time for the day, every day.

Much to my chagrin, Wes is still a drooly, drooly little man.  Gobs and gobs of drool everywhere.  I’m forced to change his shirt multiple times a day because bibs are no match for him.  Tonight he even managed to drool right into Dan’s mouth – haha.  I (and I’m willing to bet Dan) will not miss this stage when it finally ends.

What I can’t get enough of is the chatting.  Hearing his little voice is music to my ears.  And we can really see his personality starting to show.  I think he’s going to be hilarious. And quite the charmer.   Even though he barely sleeps, I enjoy him so much that I find myself feeling excited for him to wake up so I can hang out with him again.

Speaking of…I think I hear him stirring…
