{"id":7863,"date":"2014-09-04T21:35:42","date_gmt":"2014-09-05T01:35:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=7863"},"modified":"2014-09-05T06:59:12","modified_gmt":"2014-09-05T10:59:12","slug":"an-end-and-a-beginning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=7863","title":{"rendered":"An end and a beginning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School started this week. \u00a0Both kids were ready. \u00a0The parents were ready. \u00a0School supplies were purchased. \u00a0New outfits meticulously chosen. \u00a0Breakfast requests were received. \u00a0Lunches were even made (GASP!) the night before!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7867\" src=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Jaia_school_grade-3-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Jaia_school_grade 3\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" srcset=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Jaia_school_grade-3-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Jaia_school_grade-3-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Jaia_school_grade-3.jpg 1224w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We walked Jaia to her class and Wes to his. \u00a0Jaia had friends run to the door in sheer delight that she had finally arrived. \u00a0Any anxiety she had melted away.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7868\" src=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Wes_school_JK-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Wes_school_JK\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" srcset=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Wes_school_JK-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Wes_school_JK-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Wes_school_JK.jpg 1224w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wes, on the other hand, was excited <em>until<\/em> he got to the door and until\u00a0reality set in. \u00a0He became a little clingy not wanting to leave our side just yet. \u00a0He, like his mama, likes to take it slow and absorb his\u00a0surroundings before diving in. \u00a0He watched the others play &#8220;What time is it, Mr. Wolf&#8221; for a few minutes and then I got the hint (from the tough as nails teacher) that it was time for me to be on my way.<\/p>\n<p>And then I lost it.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, I was wearing sunglasses and sadly (but also the timing couldn&#8217;t have been\u00a0better) a little boy took a tiny tumble and\u00a0all the kids and the teacher ran to his rescue and I was free to slip away unnoticed. \u00a0I went to the car and sobbed (and I mean SOBBED) for 10 minutes before I could actually drive again.<\/p>\n<p>I truly thought that it would be easier with the last child than the first. \u00a0It was not. \u00a0For over 4 years, it has been mostly Wes\u00a0and I, together, alone, every day while Jaia was at school. \u00a0I suddenly realized that he would be spending most of his time with others and not with me anymore and I just felt sad.<\/p>\n<p>Today was better. \u00a0I still felt a little sad (watery eyes instead of sobs), but i watched as he\u00a0walked right up to a little boy and started talking to him about his Lego shirt. \u00a0Wesley will be fine. \u00a0Great, even. \u00a0I know he will. \u00a0I knew he would yesterday, too. \u00a0And maybe it is the knowing how he needs me a little less now\u00a0that has made this transition harder than I expected.<\/p>\n<p>Change is hard. \u00a0But change is good.
