I am Canadian. \u00a0I live in Ottawa, home of the longest skating rink in the world. \u00a0We spend a large part of the year covered in snow and ice – and yet I have a 6 year old (and 3 year old) who can’t skate.<\/p>\n

I grew up not knowing how to skate and I missed out on field trips, birthday parties and other outings. \u00a0I know what it is like not to be able to skate, and yet my daughter hasn’t learned yet.<\/p>\n

If there was blame, I’d take it. \u00a0Other activities have taken a higher spot on the priority list. \u00a0Soccer, swimming, and skiing were on the agenda last year. \u00a0It left no time for organized skating lessons. \u00a0I feel bad, but last year it was skiing. \u00a0This year, finally, we’ve laced up and have taken to the ice. \u00a0Bring on the hot chocolate!<\/p>\n

Both kids have lessons at the same time on Saturday morning for the next 6 weeks. \u00a0They won’t be attempting triple lutzes at the end, but they will have the basics.<\/p>\n

Lesson number one was a success. \u00a0Wes took to the ice and was standing on his own and then jumping within a few minutes. \u00a0Sister was a little more cautious. \u00a0She was pretty nervous from the get-go, but she powered through. \u00a0That was all I asked. \u00a0And within 10 minutes of taking off her skates, she was already talking non-stop about next week’s lesson.<\/p>\n

Oh, and notice Wes’ gloves. \u00a0Overnight, the kid decided that he wants to play hockey. \u00a0If he gets his way, we may be spending more time at the rink than I ever imagined. \u00a0Better buy myself some warm mittens!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
