{"id":676,"date":"2006-09-07T07:14:03","date_gmt":"2006-09-07T12:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=321"},"modified":"2006-09-07T07:14:03","modified_gmt":"2006-09-07T12:14:03","slug":"5-things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=676","title":{"rendered":"5 things&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, I\u00a0asked Dan a very important and\u00a0non-hypothetical question.\u00a0 &#8220;If a major natural disaster was about to\u00a0strike and you had only 30 minutes to prepare, what 5 things would you save?&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m a self-proclaimed packrat.\u00a0 I usually save far too many things that I hold dear or that I think will come in handy someday, only to find, years later, that I haven&#8217;t thought about them once and that they never did become useful to me again.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t until this last move that I finally pilfed a lot of items that I&#8217;d been carrying around with me through the last 17 times I moved house since 1992&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u266a There&#8217;s a voice, that keeps on calling me.\u00a0 Down the road,\u00a0 is where I&#8217;ll always be.\u00a0 Every stop\u00a0I make, I&#8217;ll make a new friend&#8230; \u266a\u00a0 Ahem.\u00a0 You get the point.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, it was exilarating.\u00a0 And liberating.\u00a0 And a little sad.\u00a0 I admit it wasn&#8217;t easy to part with my sticker book (complete with scratch and sniffs), <a href=\"http:\/\/us.st11.yimg.com\/us.st.yimg.com\/I\/atamaii_1914_84487443\">Monchichi<\/a> figurines and a box load of stuffed animals (Ok, I sent\u00a0those to my mom&#8217;s &#8211; I wasn&#8217;t <em>quite<\/em> ready to part with them yet&#8230;).\u00a0 But along with those items, Dan and I brought multiple carloads of junk to the Goodwill and haven&#8217;t looked back since.\u00a0 To be honest, I can&#8217;t specifically remember what we got rid of, which speaks volumes to me of\u00a0the significance of those items in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>All this to say that when we were talking about the 5 things we&#8217;d save as the world was coming to an end&#8230;we both scratched our heads.\u00a0 Were any material things important enough to carry around with us on our raft built from Ikea furniture?\u00a0 So here&#8217;s what I finally came up with:<\/p>\n<p>(By the way, I decided not to count clothes because I doubt I&#8217;d actually pack a bag.\u00a0 But I do admit that I&#8217;d\u00a0put on\u00a0a few layers of my favourite pieces, one of which may include my wedding dress.\u00a0\ud83d\ude10 )<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 The pets (and Dan).\u00a0 I was hoping they would count as one *thing*, and since it&#8217;s my game, I get to make the rules.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"dscf0006.JPG\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/dscf0006.JPG\" \/><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"sleepy-dog.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/sleepy-dog.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" id=\"image323\" style=\"width: 199px; height: 150px\" height=\"150\" alt=\"dscf0006_sm.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/dscf0006_sm.jpg\" width=\"185\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Our wedding photos.\u00a0 Or as many photos as we could squeeze onto CDs before we had to evacuate.\u00a0 It would be hard parting with any at all&#8230;But the reality is that our Ikea raft wouldn&#8217;t keep much dry (obviously I&#8217;m assuming that there natural disaster would include massive amounts of water&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"shannendan300_sm.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/shannendan300_sm.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"shannendan300_sm.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/shannendan300_sm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" id=\"image327\" style=\"width: 229px;
