{"id":503,"date":"2007-03-16T14:34:57","date_gmt":"2007-03-16T19:34:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=834"},"modified":"2007-03-16T14:34:57","modified_gmt":"2007-03-16T19:34:57","slug":"an-anniversary-missed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=503","title":{"rendered":"An anniversary missed."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The great thing about blogs is that as you document your daily life, it becomes easy to scroll back to past events and reminisce.\u00a0 I did that today.\u00a0 Way back to March 1, 2006.\u00a0 An important anniversary forgotten and not acknowledged.\u00a0 Until now.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"dsc_0007-2sm.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/dsc_0007-2sm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" id=\"image832\" title=\"dsc_0007-2sm.jpg\" style=\"width: 289px; height: 202px\" height=\"202\" alt=\"dsc_0007-2sm.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/dsc_0007-2sm.jpg\" width=\"289\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>It was on that day that we decided to adopt our faithful friend, Humphrey.\u00a0 It was also the day the cats stopped speaking to us.<\/p>\n<p>We got Humph from a shelter.\u00a0 He is a cross between: a) a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd, b) a Rottweiler and and Irish Wolfhound, c) a German Shepherd and an Airedale Terrier, or d) all of the above.\u00a0 The answer is e) we have no freakin&#8217; clue.\u00a0 People, especially strangers, love to guess but we just can&#8217;t figure it out.\u00a0 It&#8217;s almost more fun not knowing.\u00a0 We also don&#8217;t know how old he is.\u00a0 The folks at the shelter estimated at 9 months to a year old\u00a0last March, but he could\u00a0easily be younger or older than their\u00a0guess\u00a0and we would be none the wiser.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He had been abandoned by his family and left to fend for himself on the mean streets of Petawawa for over three weeks in late January\/early February of &#8217;06, the coldest months of the year.\u00a0 The reason we know this is that the former owner told a shelter volunteer that they decided against having a family pooch, opened the door and, less than politely, asked him to leave (translation:\u00a0gave him a\u00a0swift kick in the ass).\u00a0Who does that?\u00a0 And by &#8216;that&#8217; I mean first throw a dog out AND then tell someone that you did.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Duds.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"dsc_0008-2sm.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/dsc_0008-2sm.jpg\" \/><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"dsc_0036sm.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/dsc_0036sm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" id=\"image835\" title=\"dsc_0036sm.jpg\" style=\"width: 283px; height: 419px\" height=\"419\" alt=\"dsc_0036sm.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/dsc_0036sm.jpg\" width=\"283\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>That family\u00a0missed out on a very fun-loving, affectionate, adorable, hilarious, and somewhat hard of hearing pet (translation: he often ignores when he&#8217;s being called).\u00a0 He&#8217;s awesome to have around, which is mostly underfoot when carrying a baby, laundry or anything else ackward and heavy. He is my very own guard dog during night runs or when Dan is away and he has recently become Jaia&#8217;s personal bodyguard, hovering around her when she cries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Looking back to a year ago, and knowing what I know now about the ownership of a 70lb dog, I would not change a thing.\u00a0 Well, I might make him less sheddy and a bit smaller (smaller dog = smaller poops).\u00a0 But overall I&#8217;m glad he joined us and we would not be the same without him.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Anniversary, Buddy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The great thing about blogs is that as you document your daily life, it becomes easy to scroll back to past events and reminisce.\u00a0 I did that today.\u00a0 Way back to March 1, 2006.\u00a0 An important anniversary forgotten and not acknowledged.\u00a0 Until now.
