{"id":4874,"date":"2011-07-04T23:13:34","date_gmt":"2011-07-05T03:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=4874"},"modified":"2011-07-04T23:13:34","modified_gmt":"2011-07-05T03:13:34","slug":"four-point-five","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=4874","title":{"rendered":"four point five"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Celebrating a half birthday is not everyone&#8217;s bag, but it is <a href=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=2994\">ours<\/a>. \u00a0In fact, minus the party and the presents, the lead up to it is just as grand as a real birthday. \u00a0We talk about it. \u00a0We plan. \u00a0We get excited. \u00a0This year, she thought she&#8217;d tell her friends and teacher at school, and she quickly learned that not every family (read: nobody else) celebrates this particular milestone. \u00a0Too bad for them, I say. \u00a0\ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1079sm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4875\" title=\"DSC_1079sm\" src=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1079sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1079sm.jpg 531w, http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1079sm-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My girl. \u00a0Smart, sweet and sassy. \u00a0And by sassy, I mean SASSY. Oh so sassy. \u00a0But, lucky for us, she is also lovely and kind and generous. She is definitely coming into her own. \u00a0And I adore who&#8217;s she&#8217;s becoming.<\/p>\n<p>In the last 6 months Jaia has become more confident and sure of herself. \u00a0She is eager to absorb everything she can. \u00a0She&#8217;s learning to read, and now that&#8217;s she&#8217;s begun be able to string letters together, she wants to read everything herself. \u00a0Everything.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s also super interested in learning French. \u00a0In September when she heads back to school for Senior Kindergarten, she&#8217;ll be taught 100% in French. \u00a0She doesn&#8217;t understand much yet, but she recognizes it. \u00a0Dan and I have been using French to communicate in front of her \u00a0for a while now\u00a0(if we don&#8217;t want her to know what we&#8217;re saying), but lately she&#8217;s been busting us with a &#8220;are you and daddy telling secrets in French again?&#8221; \u00a0We are definitely going to have to brush up on our Spanish. \u00a0Thankfully she&#8217;s not watching Dora anymore or we&#8217;d be screwed.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, on Jaia&#8217;s half birthday, two big things happened to her (and to me).<\/p>\n<p>1) \u00a0Soccer! \u00a0Jaia had her first soccer practice. \u00a0She&#8217;s been in soccer a few times before now, but it was a very much geared at little kids. \u00a0Now though, it is more serious. \u00a0Kids on her team have definite skills and could easily out play me (ok, that wouldn&#8217;t be so tough). \u00a0And she devoured the challenge. \u00a0Intimidated at first, she came off that field after her first real game, beaming.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_0916sm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4879\" title=\"DSC_0916sm\" src=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_0916sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"498\" srcset=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_0916sm.jpg 750w, http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_0916sm-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2) \u00a0More monumental than the soccer game, was that today was Jaia&#8217;s last day of kindergarten. \u00a0No longer the littlest kid in school (maybe not littlest, but definitely the youngest), Jaia finished up her first year of school like a trooper. \u00a0She started as a shy, timid little lady and walked out of there with friends she made on her own, with new life skills she learned completely independent of her parents and with memories that will last forever. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t be more proud. \u00a0She did it. \u00a0She made it through and she loved every second.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4881\" title=\"DSC_1064sm\" src=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1064sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1064sm.jpg 700w, http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1064sm-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4882\" title=\"DSC_1071sm\" src=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1071sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"527\" srcset=\"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1071sm.jpg 700w, http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/DSC_1071sm-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Happy half \u00a0birthday, my not so little one. \u00a0I can&#8217;t wait to see what the next 6 months brings our way. \u00a0Less sassiness, perhaps?
