<\/a><\/p>\nOk, Wes didn’t skate. \u00a0He sat in his stroller and barely complained about being held hostage. \u00a0Jaia, on the other hand, did skate. \u00a0It was her first time on single blades – the very ones that she asked Santa for. \u00a0Hockey skates with pink laces. \u00a0My girl knows what she likes…<\/p>\n
Well, Santa delivered. \u00a0And though we’ve had them for over a month, we hadn’t had the time to use them yet. \u00a0But Jaia was pumped. \u00a0I don’t think she really thought about how hard skating can be – or at least how hard the ice is when you hit it bum first.<\/p>\n To be honest though, I was amazed at her. \u00a0Just like with skiing\/snowboarding, I wasn’t a fan growing up. \u00a0My parents tried everything to pique my interest: figure skates, molded skates, hockey skates – but nothing worked. \u00a0It was cold and I was much more content to be in my comfy, warm winter boots watching everyone skate. \u00a0But not Jaia. \u00a0She is not content to watch. \u00a0She wants to be a part of the action. \u00a0And she wants to be good, if not great at everything she tries.<\/p>\n The first 20 minutes were fantastic. \u00a0She took risks. \u00a0She pulled away from our reach so she could do it on her own and skated (farther from me than I liked). \u00a0And then she fell. \u00a0Funny at first. \u00a0But after the 5th time, her bum started to hurt and her enthusiasm waned. \u00a0 It was time to go home before she began to associate skating with falling rather than fun.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
