Bravery is not one of my strong suits. \u00a0Turns out though, that the apple can fall far from the tree.<\/p>\n

On the weekend, we went to a birthday party. \u00a0Jaia’s little buddy turned 4. \u00a0The theme was ‘animals’ and the entertainment included a visit from Little Ray’s Reptiles. \u00a0The kids were ecstatic. \u00a0The adults, mostly less so. \u00a0We get creeped out way easier than our littles.<\/p>\n

Snakes and lizards don’t phase me. \u00a0I basically grew up with them. \u00a0My uncle Dave always had pythons and boas at his place and they were often out of their cages and around his shoulders. \u00a0He also had a handful of lizards, including 6 foot iguanas that had their own room in the house. \u00a0 All were just pets.<\/p>\n

But I drew the line at his tarantulas. \u00a0No way, not cool.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Little Ray began to presentation with an awesome big ole iguana. \u00a0The kids were a bit weirded out at first and only a few wanted to pet him. \u00a0The Black Rat Snake was a bit more popular. \u00a0Most of the kids thought he was cool looking and wanted to hold him.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I’m not sure if it was watching the older girls or if she just really wanted to check ’em out, but she suddenly wanted in:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Then came the frog:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And the scorpion. \u00a0Yes, I’m serious.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I couldn’t believe how brave she was. \u00a0I never expected it. \u00a0Even some of the adults approached me saying they couldn’t believe she was only 3. \u00a0And nothing would stop her. \u00a0No matter how creepy the critter, my girl just wasn’t afraid.<\/p>\n

I sat beside her the whole time but I drew the line at the tarantula. \u00a0No way, not cool.<\/p>\n

Jaia disagreed. \u00a0She wanted to hold him. \u00a0And rather than running and hiding like I wanted to do, I stepped away, pretending I could get a better picture from a different angle. \u00a0Truth was, I was PETRIFIED. \u00a0I don’t care that tarantula venom has never killed a human being (as per Little Ray), I wanted nothing to do with it. \u00a0But I never let on. \u00a0Why should Jaia believe there’s something to be afraid of just because her mom is afraid? \u00a0and by afraid, I mean PETRIFIED.<\/p>\n

So out came her hand…<\/p>\n

and on it crept…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I still get the heebie jeebies just thinking about it. \u00a0Having the pictures don’t help. \u00a0What didn’t give me the heebie jeebies was this little dude:<\/p>\n

and Kyler and jaia agreed. \u00a0The last couple of reptiles were also awesome. \u00a0An enormous albino python and a sweet land turtle that had them all oohing and ahhing.<\/p>\n

This was the greatest little kid party I’ve ever been to. \u00a0It was brilliant. \u00a0The kids were amazed. \u00a0And my little bean loved every second. \u00a0I’d like to say that I’ll throw a party like this when my own little guy turns 4, but I may have to have one for my brave, brave little lady long before that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
