If we could wrangle Dan and take him to Virginia, I’m not sure we’d come back.\u00a0 Especially not when our northern neighbours are still shovelling their way out of 50cms of snow from the weekend and bracing for a few more later on this week.\u00a0 I was not sad about missing this past weekend in Ottawa.\u00a0 Nor was I sad about not having to wear a coat while in Virginia, or about getting to take Jaia out for her first walk on the actual ground (rather than the packed snow and ice that has been covering the ground since well before she started walking on her own) in a light spring coat and her beyond adorable pedipeds<\/a>.\u00a0 It was glorious.\u00a0 Vitamin D makes me happy.<\/p>\n

The trip also marked the first airplane ride for Jaia and I on our own.\u00a0 Since the last time we flew, in November, she has started walking, become incredibly curious of other people and become very brave.\u00a0 None of these\u00a0changes make travelling on your own with a toddler very easy.\u00a0 Especially since we left on Wednesday, at the tail end of the first snowstorm that week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Our plane\u00a0left late, and Jaia refused to nap during the day, so by the time we boarded at 8:30 and took off at close to 9:30, she was beyond over-tired.\u00a0 And I suddenly filled the shoes of every mother I’ve shot an evil glance at when their child seemed to be endlessly crying.\u00a0 I tried my best to keep her busy, but trying to convince her to stay quiet and in her seat was useless.\u00a0 I felt awful for her.\u00a0 I felt awful for me.\u00a0 I felt awful for everyone sitting within earshot of us.\u00a0 It felt like the longest flight ever.<\/p>\n

Thankfully the weekend improved with gorgeous weather, an amazing haircut\u00a0and a phenomenal bachelorette party for my sister, Liz.\u00a0 I hadn’t been out in Alexandria in years and it didn’t let me down.\u00a0 And it spoiled the hell out of the girl of honour.\u00a0 The wine tasting at Jane’s mom’s breathtaking house was delicious.\u00a0 Our dinner at Overwood was mouth watering.\u00a0 And the grand finale at Rock It grill…well, it rocked it.\u00a0 And the proof was in Liz getting up the day after at around…4:30 pm.\u00a0 Always a sign of good times.\u00a0<\/p>\n
