This year I am thankful for:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Jaia.\u00a0 Nothing makes me happier than that little girl.\u00a0 She is the best thing that has ever happened to me.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Family and Friends.\u00a0 This should come as no surprise.\u00a0 Dan, my family, my family-in-law and my friends – old and new – are simply amazing.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 My new flash.\u00a0 I finally got around to buying a Nikon Speedlight Flash for indoor photography and I’m absolutely elated with the results.\u00a0 Without it, up until now, I’ve wasted a lot of time unable to take pictures like this:<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Uninterrupted sleeps.\u00a0 It doesn’t happen often, but when it does…Magic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Maternity and Parental Leave in Canada.\u00a0\u00a0I can’t imagine not having had this time at home with Jaia.\u00a0 I feel so lucky.<\/p>\n

Parents in this country are entitled to 50 weeks of leave when\u00a0they give birth (or adopt).\u00a0 In most other countries, new parents are entitled to much, much less.\u00a0\u00a0According to\u00a0a list<\/a> I found, one of the worst offenders is the United States.\u00a0\u00a0They have no paid maternity or parental leave benefits and offer only 12 weeks unpaid, though some more generous<\/em>\u00a0employers will give their employees up to 6 weeks (with pay).\u00a0 And though we have it pretty sweet here in Canada, I do have to admit that I’m pretty envious of Swedish moms\/parents who receive a whopping 480 days.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Playgroups.\u00a0 Especially in the beginning, it felt so amazing to have friends experiencing the whole baby thing (for the first or second time) at the same time as I was.\u00a0 Those girls kept me sane.\u00a0<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Indian summers.\u00a0 The weather has been beyond gorgeous for a lot longer than it should have this year.\u00a0 We have taken full advantage and have been soaking up the warm days and spending as much time as possible outside.\u00a0 And now, just in time, we are ready for real fall weather and the snuggly warm sweaters and pjs that come along with it.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 Friends who move to warm, beautiful places that\u00a0we can visit (hopefully often).<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0 Lists.<\/p>\n

I could go on, but won’t.\u00a0 It would take too long.\u00a0 2007 (and the last 9 minutes of 2006) have been absolutely phenomenal.\u00a0 And there is still so much, including Christmas and Jaia’s birthday and party, to look forward to.\u00a0 Excellent.\u00a0\u00a0I can’t wait.<\/p>\n
