Yesterday:<\/p>\n
Jaia and I were mopping the floor after having cleaned up the last of the rubble that found it’s way into our living room over the past few weeks while renovating the kitchen. \u00a0While she dunked the mop in the water, I grabbed my favourite (favourite, favourite, favourite) vase to move it from the table and it shattered in my hands. \u00a0And all over the floor. \u00a0And on the couch.<\/p>\n
It scared the heck out of both of us. \u00a0She cried. \u00a0I wanted to. \u00a0I loved it. \u00a0But I soldiered on, comforted Jaia who was sad that something actually broke – whether or not she had anything to do with it – and then swept up the glass before any of us got hurt.<\/p>\n
Today (in the car on the way home):<\/p>\n
About halfway Jaia changed the subject from which Christmas carol is her current favourite to last night’s broken vase incident. \u00a0She asked about a zillion questions about why it broke, whether or not I was sad, what I did with the broken glass, etc.<\/p>\n
The conversation continued for a few minutes and then the questions began to change…”Will you get a new vase?” “Do you want a new vase?” And then she said what what I thought was “Daddy and I will buy you a new vase”, which turned out to be Daddy and I buyed <\/strong>you a new vase”.<\/p>\n Yup, she and Dan went shopping before picking me up to buy me a new vase as a last minute Christmas gift and Jaia spilled the beans. \u00a0I imagine Dan told her it was a secret, but a secret to a 3 year old means that you can say it, just at a whisper. \u00a0And whisper she did.<\/p>\n When I looked at Dan and saw the hilarious look on his face confirming that they did buy me a new vase for Christmas I couldn’t help but laugh. \u00a0I laughed all the way home, a little through dinner and even now when I think about how adorable that kid is and how proud she was for helping pick out a replacement vase for me.<\/p>\n Sweetest. Kid.
