So, I’m officially through my first month of being a full-time mom\/part-time employee. \u00a0And so far the decision has been an excellent one. \u00a0Most days.<\/p>\n

Let me explain.<\/p>\n

Getting to spend every day at home with Jaia has been a blessing. \u00a0I’m a much, much happier person now. \u00a0I feel less stressed, less tired, and less anxious. \u00a0It’s been amazing.<\/p>\n

But it’s been busy. \u00a0Almost too busy. \u00a0Trying to fit in my work before Jaia wakes up, while she’s napping and in the evenings means I have very little time to myself. \u00a0Much less than before. \u00a0I find, to make up for it, I’m staying up later than I should and getting less sleep than I’d like to. \u00a0But truly, these are small sacrifices compared with what I gain by this life change.<\/p>\n

And I think Jaia is enjoying it too. \u00a0Most days.<\/p>\n

Let me explain.<\/p>\n

It has been the wettest, yuckiest summer that I can remember. \u00a0When you are 2 \u00a01\/2, being forced to stay inside rather than go for a walk or play at the park is less than ideal. \u00a0There are only so many puzzles you can do and pictures you can colour before you are aching for something more. \u00a0Also, early on, we made loads of plans for playdates and get-togethers with friends who are also off during the week, and very few of those have actually happened. \u00a0The weather, visits from family, unexpected trips out of town and and mismatched schedules have duped all of our plans.<\/p>\n

The rest of the summer is taken up by a couple of weddings, a long-overdue vacation (that will include me dipping my toe in the Pacific ocean for the very first time), visits with family, and Jaia’s first ride on a horse. \u00a0And once we are back, there are only a few weeks before fall comes. \u00a0I can’t believe how fast it whipped by. \u00a0The warm, somewhat dry days have barely arrived and they are almost gone.<\/p>\n

Indian summer anyone? \u00a0I’m in.<\/p>\n
