{"id":1506,"date":"2009-04-28T10:50:37","date_gmt":"2009-04-28T14:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=1506"},"modified":"2009-04-28T10:50:37","modified_gmt":"2009-04-28T14:50:37","slug":"paris-so-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=1506","title":{"rendered":"Paris &#8211; so far&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, here we are at the end of the 4th day and I finaly found A) an internet caf\u00e9 and B) an English keyboard.\u00a0 Both are making me very happy.\u00a0 I have been able to check email but composing has been a challenge.\u00a0 I still can&#8217;t find the @ sign on the French keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>I.Love.Paris.\u00a0\u00a0 I don&#8217;t love Paris weather in the springtime and definitely packed terribly for the trip &#8211; but the beauty of this place MORE that makes up for the cloudy skies and cold temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>I have taken hundreds of photos.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a budding photographer&#8217;s heaven.\u00a0 Everywhere you look there is something beautiful to look at and I&#8217;ve tried to capture as much of it as I can.\u00a0 I hope, when I get home and look at the pictures, that I&#8217;ve done it justice.<\/p>\n<p>Some highlights and other observations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I rock in French.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been complemented by strangers and I am extremely proud of myself.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m loving speaking and listening to people speak the language. \u00a0I just may be a Francophile and didn&#8217;t\u00a0 know it.<\/li>\n<li>Paris is the most beautiful place I&#8217;ve ever been in my life &#8211; and possibly the stinkiest.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s the time of year of terrible luck, but everywhere we go (especially metro stations) it reeks like pee.\u00a0 And that makes me want to vomit.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t yet &#8211; but have been close.<\/li>\n<li>The food.\u00a0 Oh, wow, the food.\u00a0 I could eat the bread and butter and cheese every day for the rest of my life.\u00a0 It&#8217;s amazing.\u00a0 And we have not been disapointed at any meal.\u00a0 We leave full and happy every time.<\/li>\n<li>The wine.\u00a0 Yum.<\/li>\n<li>Our hotel is tiny and adorable and perfectly French.\u00a0 Including the outlets.\u00a0 Turns out my hairdryer will overheat and come close to burning my head if I try to use it.\u00a0 Yes, my bad for not checking.\u00a0 I assumed that as long as I had the outlet adapter I could use it.\u00a0 Not so.\u00a0 I know now, fried head and all.<\/li>\n<li>The drivers are CRAZY.\u00a0 Or the street lights are.\u00a0 Either way I see at least one person almost get hit every day.\u00a0 And I&#8217;ve been *that* person once..or twice.<\/li>\n<li>We have walked 8000 miles since we&#8217;ve arrived.\u00a0 Ok, a slight exaggeration, but just barely.\u00a0 My feet are aching.\u00a0 Beyond aching.\u00a0 Perhaps bruised.\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks to those who suggested comfortable shoes, because without them I would likely have to amputate both my feet.\u00a0 I now totally get why French people are so skinny.<\/li>\n<li>The Eiffel Tower visit was so worth it.\u00a0 And at night, on the half hour, it sparkles.\u00a0 That may be my favourite thing so far.<\/li>\n<li>I was wrong.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t just miss Jaia (and Dan).\u00a0 It &#8216;s more than that.\u00a0 I wish they were here with me.\u00a0 Next time.<\/li>\n<li>The hot dog are ridiculously long.\u00a0 Weird.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More to come&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.with pictures&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, here we are at the end of the 4th day and I finaly found A) an internet caf\u00e9 and B) an English keyboard.\u00a0 Both are making me very happy.\u00a0 I have been able to check email but composing has been a challenge.\u00a0 I still can&#8217;t find the @ sign on the French keyboard.
