{"id":1178,"date":"2009-02-05T21:08:18","date_gmt":"2009-02-06T01:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=1178"},"modified":"2013-03-13T09:02:32","modified_gmt":"2013-03-13T13:02:32","slug":"four-christmases-and-two-birthdays-part-deux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=1178","title":{"rendered":"Four Christmases (and two birthdays) &#8211; Part Deux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-bottom: 6pt; margin-left: 6pt; margin-right: 6pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana; color: #000000;\">It seems like eons since all of this happened now, but with a couple of big firsts for Jaia, it definitely deserves a recap.\u00a0 Plus, with no holidays or even a long weekend in sight for months, I may have to live in the past for a little while just be able to cope with the dark mornings, never-ending snow and bitter cold.\u00a0 Today, -31 degrees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 6pt; margin-left: 6pt; margin-right: 6pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana; color: #000000;\">I left off last time with Dan and I (not) rigning in the New Year, while the birthday girl slept peacefully after a long, full, happy birthday.\u00a0 My intention was to stay up until 11:51 pm, the moment she was born two years earlier, so I slip in, give her a kiss and wish her a very happy birthday &#8211; but I was fast asleep myself.\u00a0 There&#8217;s always next year&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 6pt; margin-left: 6pt; margin-right: 6pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\">January 1<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> &#8211; We checked out of the Bess and back into the Sheraton (worth it for the party, but checking in an out of three hotels in three days would not normally be my recommendation).\u00a0 With everything closed we bided our time before going over to awesome aunt Susie&#8217;s Saskatoon house for an Afghan feast.\u00a0 It was beyond delish! <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\">One of the best meals I\u2019ve ever had.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 6pt 0pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 6pt 0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\">January 2 \u2013 <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\">We woke up early as we had a looooooong day ahead.Dan, Jaia, Jen and I were driving from Saskatoon to Calgary with all of our holiday loot and our 6 gigantic suitcases.Thankfully we didn\u2019t hit any bad weather, because the drive was long enough with me just barely fitting in the back seat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 6pt 0pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 6pt 0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\">January 3<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> \u2013 We piled back in the car, thankfully with much less stuff and headed to Panorama for a few days of skiing (Dan) and relaxing (me) with Dan\u2019s dad\u2019s side.We\u2019ve been two other times since we\u2019ve been together, and the drive up the steep, narrow, snow-covered, icy mountains never fails to scare the crap out of me.Jan and I typically spend much of the last half of the drive looking through our fingers as we cover our eyes.Terrifying.But Dan always gets us there safe, and never seems to break a sweat.I hope Jaia takes after him in that respect.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\">January 4-5<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana;\"> \u2013 The days, spent out on snowboards for the rest of the crew (Jaia and I explored and took about a million photos).\u00a0 The nights were spent eating amazing comfort food and watching movies by the fire.\u00a0 Ahhhhh!!!\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t been that relaxed in ages.\u00a0 Well-deserved.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana; color: #000000;\">The highlights of the trip for me though, both happened in the afternoon of the 5th.\u00a0 Dan&#8217;s dad took his granddaughter over to the rental shop and rented her a pair of boots and skis.\u00a0 My two-year old daughter was going skiing for the first time with the best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/forgetfulpeanut\/3196237426\/in\/set-72157612493350271\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">instructor<\/span><\/a> I know.\u00a0 We all stood around like paparazzi at the bottom of the hill snapping photos while she got her skis snapped on and as they headed up the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/forgetfulpeanut\/3209929219\/in\/set-72157612493350271\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">magic carpet <\/span><\/a>to the top of the bunny hill.\u00a0 And then at the top, they did the unthinkable&#8230;they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/forgetfulpeanut\/3209915767\/in\/set-72157612493350271\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">skiied<\/span><\/a>!\u00a0 And she loved it.\u00a0 LOVED IT!\u00a0 Smiled and laughed the whole time as she swerved from one side of the hill to the other &#8216;chasing&#8217; Dan and I.\u00a0 I was beaming with pride.\u00a0 At just 2 she&#8217;s done something I&#8217;ve never been able to do &#8211; ski without fear.\u00a0 I hope it continues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana; color: #000000;\">Once we got home from the big day, we went straight for another first.\u00a0 Jaia got a haircut.\u00a0 This time it was her grandma in charge.\u00a0 I thought she might fuss alittle, but she sat there, good as gold, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/forgetfulpeanut\/3211043066\/in\/set-72157612493350271\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">staring<\/span><\/a> straight at the mirror, watching her personal stylists every <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/forgetfulpeanut\/3211048418\/in\/set-72157612493350271\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">move<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 And when it was al said and done, she was a happy, happy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/forgetfulpeanut\/3211050300\/in\/set-72157612493350271\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">camper<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Verdana; color: #000000;\"><strong>January 6<\/strong> &#8211; I woke up a year older.\u00a0 I was immediately had a coffee placed in my hand followed by a delicious breakfast.\u00a0 Not long after Jen, Dianna and I headed to the spa where we were all SPOILED rotten.
